View Full Version : Why are unoffensive threads being deleted?

I figured this would be the place to ask the question.
I was in the backroom, and there was a thread started by Don Corleone, in which he said he was leaving. I wanted to reply to express my regret but I couldn't.
When I checked the backroom again, the thread was gone. Completely, utterly gone. It wasn't just locked, it had been deleted.
I thought it was the Org's policy to lock threads, not delete them. Even threads that have completely deterioted aren't deleted, they are locked. And this thread had no offensive words/ideas/etc.
With this in mind, I have some questions:
What made this thread bad?
Why was this thread deleted, instead of locked?
Why would it even be locked?
Who deleted it? Was it a group decision approved by the staff?
I greatly respect TosaInu as the Admin of this board, and I would like to know why this happened so I can better understand how this board runs and how to be a productive member.

It is odd that it didn't get the 'moved thread' icon.

i think i have seen that before on the org, where a moved thread has no moved icon in the original forum. it is kind of odd regardless. maybe it has something to do with how long the thread was in the original forum?

If a moderator doesn't want to have his forum cluttered with Moved icons he can simply click a radio button and no icon is shown... even I did not expect such evilness from Soly! :stunned:

Odd that the only post for an hour and a half was right after you posted here, yet after that post, there were 5 in half an hour.
Oh well, at least it's back. Can't win 'em all, eh?

and half an hour later - as of right now-, no one has posted in it, so what's your point? i imagine somebody read in this very thread where it was and so went to post in it.
that's right Rabbit, you can't win 'em all. drama will have to wait for another day.

Given the tone of late, I think it would've been better to be transparent about it and left the moved note- that is the normal procedure is it not?
Crazed Rabbit
10-20-2005, 06:35
Well then, why didn't you just use the normal 'moved' note?

There are two different types of tools... thread vs post tools.
And each has several choices that do similar things but not with identical results.

Depends on the moderator. When I was moderator of the Dungeon I never wanted Moved icons since it cluttered the forums.

you didnt anwer my question: what were you implying by saying, "Odd that the only post for an hour and a half was right after you posted here, yet after that post, there were 5 in half an hour." ??
oh, and looks like 45 minutes has passed between this post (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=961323&postcount=8) and this post (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=961347&postcount=9). would you like to suggest I had something to do with the length of time between those posts, too?
I'm looking forward to your answers.

It's funny you of all people should get on someone for not answering questions.
But, because I am a nice guy, and I feel sorry for you, I'll help you out.
Although I thought it was pretty obvious, I'd clarify it even more, just for you. I meant that the thread could have been deleted and only restored after I posted this thread.

No, thank you.
Now, I have a question for you. Actually, it's already been stated, several times, but it can't hurt to write it again, can it?
Why didn't you use the normal 'moved' note?
I think Xiahou put it best:

i moved it a post, and not as a thread. i have done this with other threads (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=55625), before this one.
now that you "better understand how this board runs," I look forward to your committment in striving towards, "how to be a productive member," as you expressed in your original post.

Could you define the "tone of late" please? I'm intrested as the atmosphere lately seems to have shifted from friendly to paranoid. I'm wondering how this can be improved.
Though it might have been better to leave a redirect, if it was only for the patrons to follow what happened to a post, it may also be better not to draw conclusions so quickly and react in such a way. Neither of this is helping the atmosphere.
So once more,
what is "the tone of late" and how can this be improved?

Posted in the Backroom for 2 month (Ap-Ju) , got a warning , a PM etc' every 5 posts and arrogant remarks regarding my bad English (it is not my language) , did not like it , left the Backroom since , but to say or imply that there is a conspiracy or somthing like that ? Come on , it is only a forum , not the Roman Senate...Please , not nice , not nice (but I can understand your feelings Crazed Rabbit) .

It is people getting warned for reporting a mod's post, others being warned for 'destroying a fun thread', comments like Spino's being edited without reason, mod's making retard jokes, etc. Basically, it is a tone of patrons being warned for disagreeing with a mod.

Oh, and Solypsist, why didn't you post in the thread that you were moving it, as you did in your example?

This is very one-sided and subjective...one could say that it's the patrons who are overly sensitive and whining about every warning. However ,that too is one sided and subjective. I think it's in the middle, but why is this the fact?
hence the second question
How can we improve this?

No disrespect to anyone intended, but IMHO the atmosphere here is getting just a bit too much on the side of paranoid. Maybe we should have a "Gulag" forum, where people who feel they are being oppressed by mods in other forums could post? I would be happy to offer my services as a moderator of such a forum, and promise to randomly edit peoples posts, inserting pro-homosexuality and anti-gun ownership sentiments and otherwise commit many outrageous acts of liberal oppression on the exiles languishing there.
(NB this is a joke, but really people, lighten up a bit?)
The topic is just moved to the Frontroom. This problem solved -> this topic gets closed.
