How do i make alan merc cavalry produced by something other than just an Inn?
I would like to make the Alan Merc cav produceable as a "normal" unit for the byzantines with a horse_breeder
can it be done?

im not sure i understand LK, if I copy the info from a similar unit in crusader pord 11 file and then replace the orig alan merc cav wont i in effect have say steepe cavalry as oppossed to alan merc?

i am starting to learn how to make mods.
in my case i tried making Almughavars available as an Aragon only unit but to no avail.
i will go back to it soon, i finally managed to get turcopoles up. its available only to catholic europeans ( but i am guessing historically it should be limited to crusading nations, will change that asap) , however its only buildable in the 4 muslim areas of edessa, syria, tripoli and antonia (bonus).
i like to see more units in game but not at the cost of being too unhistorical.
so in my mod i hope to do this for the mercs-only units generally. i mean how often do u see Almughavars in game. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif
requirements usually involves an "inn" + basic structure 1 or 2 to reflect the merc nature of the units.
seems to me there are a couple of fields actually b4 a merc unit turns out nicely.
most of them comes with a NO_FACTION TAG so i usually change to that to ALL_FACTIONS or in the case of turcopoles due to their nature i restrict them to non-muslims/Byz rite now.
its possible there's a tag that restrict all_factions units to only catholic ones (feudal man-at-arms) as well.
but since merc units usually dun have that tag at first so i think with Alan merc u can get by with issuing the building needed and the faction allowed to make it.
but in my own mod, i will restrict alan merc to certain areas (something like steppe cavalry)
a question of my own though, is there anyway to allow a faction to build in any of its own province a special troops once it conquered that area that produces it.
say i play spain, take over scot land and i can produce highlanders anywhere.
in my mind not for very area specific troops like highlanders but rather i was thinking a system whereby u take over an area producing some more generic troop types that "Adds" itself to ur production quene in your empire once u conquer it. (say a modded swiss troops for example) or turcopoles as well.

ah sorry but what u mean by they dun work properly? u mean in an unmodded game? or u mean in game they dun work properly in combat etc so its pointless to set them up in SP?

i recall turcopoles having a German HRE rite b4 the Antonia tag as well.

The animation lacks something very
important for a javalin unit in my
opinion.It can't throw ,so it looks
stupid to say the least.
Now if this was produced by some dimwit modder like myself for example
and lets say the throwing animation
did not exist in any other folder
I would think it was very clever but this is

I think the "French Toulouse" means that Chiv Knights produced only by the french and only in Toulouse have a valor bonus for ChivKnights.

hmm thing is that most if not all of european + russians can build chiv knights i think
but i think i found my answer myself.
recall back last time i think someone said english ? got a 25% discount when buying billmen.
i see this under the billmen listing.

the word mercia translates into the +1 valour bonus when u build there.
the word english b4 prolly relates to the 25% discount.
so in a way the french will be able to buy chiv knights cheaper then the rest of the pple.

yup i did a comparison with turkish bedouin camel 250 gold and egypt's camels (with the word egyptian listed at the same spot as the word "english" but for the bedouin's camel units)at 188 gold.(80 men units)
prolly that phrase indicates a reduction of 25% cost.
i check that most of the french chiv units except foot knights (not available in SP) are 25% cheaper.
i had kinda felt the french are a bit handicapped coz they dun have unique units.
oh well.
