First i changed some of the ammo numbers for archers from 29 to 40. I opened the game and when i tried to make a custom battlei got the first page and there were graphics like the sliders available but there was no text for which era i wanted and the contne selection at bottom was greyed out. I reinserted the original file and the same thing happens also no choice for chossing eras on a new campaign

I will reinstall but juts wondering if there is soemthing else am supposed to do if i edit a file.

i hope by reinstall you mean reinstall the backup of the file you edited...
it certainly is a long task reinstalling the whole game...

the unit and build files can be a bit touchy,
a comma or tab out of place will cause problems.

No your problem is that you renamed your
prod11.The game will will give you an
error message when you boot if
make a mistake in the prod11.
However if you remove the file
or rename it the game will boot
no problem it will allow you
go to the screen you mentioned
and that's it because it has called on the prod and it's not there.
It can only give an error message
when booting if it can read the file.
So saving in another format could do this
if you change the extention to one the game
does not recognise or else when you
saved it saved as copy of and you did
not notice.

You may wonder how a clever person like my self knows all this.Well it's because
dumbo here has made all these mistakes
and I will make them again but to
make sure I repeat my mistakes to make sure
it's a constant if not a fact.

So if you have ,as many others, deleted
your mistakes in anger, don't ,
if you do this you will never find out what went wrong.

You don't have to take my advice but you
don't have to have wierd things happening
to your game neither http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

P.S. no point in having a backup
that you have messed with even if it's "just" saving in another format.

well something funny happened. when i looked at the "altered" file the ms dos file name had changed from crusad~1.txt to crusad~2/txt

I havent a clue how to edit in ms dos or even if that is how one alters the files if you want to increase something like ammo.

I think you'll find that the DOS (shortname) files crusad~1.txt and crusad~2.txt refer to the Windows (longname)files Crusaders_unit_prod11.txt and Crusader_build_prod14.txt

The '~1' just means "if 2 or more files in Windows share the same first 6 char's, and extension, then identify them in DOS via a numbered prefix ~1/~2/~3 etc:"

Wish I could say I did, but I dont. Guess I need an idiots guide to editing the file.
