For those who speak Esperanto.

Ĉu vi parolas Esperanton? Ajnulo? Mi apenaŭ lernas freŝdate, alioj konas?

Sorry, I don't learn languages that require diacritics.

Actually, I think Esperanto is a good idea, a lit Eurocentric, but a good idea.

I used to be fluent in Esperanto. I traded that skill in for a free coffee over at Starbucks.

If I was going to be nerdish enough to learn a made up language I would go for I don't know Elvish or something more effeminate like French. ~;) ~D

But Pape, soon Esperanto will make all other languages obsolete! No need to learn Elvish or French; Esperanto will subsume them all. One of these days. Just you wait.

Personally, I'd be more interested in learning Wookie.

A friend of mine spent four years learning Elvish (read: Karelian) and it's the trump card he uses to out-nerd me. I decided to pick up Orcish to out-nerd him back, but it's awfully underdeveloped.

Learn Klingon.

Learn Klingon.

Nah, Klingon's a cliché, and it's actually not useless. Many Klingon speakers (relatively many, that is...) have been hired, I've heard, in the UK for work as translators in insane asylums. Apparently, lots of people really think they are Klingon and refuse to speak anything else.

Learning a German dialect is a silly idea. I'm actually trying to teach myself Scots Gaelic at this point, but without anyone else around who speaks it, progress is slow.

Ciamar a tha sibh, NeonGod? (of the little Gaelic I know) Go on a wee holiday to the Western Isles one day and enjoy the rain and tour the distilleries...

Make an effort and learn Scots. Then you can say "Ah'll hae twa pehs, a plein ane an an ingan ane an aa"

GoreBag

Tha gu math, tapadh leabh. Ciamar a tha sibh fhein?

Qapla! :klingon:

If I could learn a language, it would be Ossetian or Pahlavi (Middle Persian).

Tha mi gu math.

I'll have two pies (the most obvious part), a plain one and an onion one as well.

If you really like Esperanto, I would recommend the great 60s movie, Incubus. It is the only feature film written and performed entirely in Esperanto (with English subtitles), and it stars none other than William Shatner.

Yes, it's true, and it's hilarious:

Oh yes, but it is damned incomprehensible when spoken amongst other Scots phrases...

German Chicks are hotter than Czech chicks I find.

This is so not true. This is like saying English chicks are hotter than Irish chicks. Much as I'd LIKE this to be true it just isn't.

Hungarian girls are hotter still but whether the additional hotness outweighs the fact that Hungarian is harder to learn than Czech is a moot point.

On the subject of Esperanto, if you want an international language not spoken by any particular country today, why Esperanto, and not Latin? After all:

Latin has actually been an international language

You get Latin literature thrown in for free

Latin may not be as regular as Esperanto but its not too bad, and you could easily "modernise" most of the irregularities away.

Duke Malcolm

But English has also been more of an international language than latin, and still is. I say all those peopl of the world should learn English...

I make a motion that the Babe thread features a competition between German and Czech ladies.

It's not the soy, it's the national ego.

EDIT: Wait, actually, it is the soy sauce.
