Tosa, i think it would be a good idea if you complained to your service provider about the type of pop-ups the .Org is getting, because for the first time ever i'm getting bastardized pop-ups, even though i've got a pop-up blocker enabled, and it's very annoying. I can't go to a new page without being asked if i want to subscribe to AOL, AOL of all bloody things!!
Stop it somehow, or i'm leaving.

Have you done your Microsoft updates? That cleared the rash of recent pop ups at the ORG for me, I haven't had any since. The MS popup blocker seems to work. The pop ups were beyond annoying, 1 or 2 for each page.
Tosa, in case this helps: I noticed they seemed to be linked to the "reply" or "new topic" function. Somehow, opening the posting boxes seemed to send the popups into a frenzy.

This morning I suddenly got two pop-ups every time I clicked a link on the .org forum site, no matter which link, no matter which forum. Very annoying. Then, just as I was about to complain about them in this thread, they stopped.

EDIT
Right. Now they're back. I didn't change anything in my settings yesterday or today.
.....
Which ones did you get AdrianII?
Just refreshing this thread gives me multiple Capital One and Screensavers.com popups.

I was getting quite a few with "adyieldmanager" as part of the address. Sounds exactly like what AdrianII was describing. Not sure why the MS update did the trick for me.

Never got one. My job's anti-pop-up seems as efficient as Yahoo's one...

Oh how annoying, this is beyond ridiculous now. Even though the pop-up blocker is working now, it's very annoying constantly having the little beeping sound and banner saying 'Pop-up blocked' every time i go to a new page. And to make matters worse, it's still AOL!! I ate AOL!! The only thing they're good for is free coasters in the mail!!

I was getting quite a few with "adyieldmanager" as part of the address. Sounds exactly like what AdrianII was describing. They are back. And they are all from ad.firstadsolution.com, a known spyware and adware adress. I am running my own checks now. See what my anti-spyware comes up with before I blame it on anyone else. But let us keep each other posted on this issue.
EDIT
Meantime my anti-spyware has taken care of the pop-ups, but I still don't know where they originated.

I too got the problem. My internet activity has been very limited lately, so it must be somewhere in the .org's server.
It's from ad.yieldmanager....something.
GAH! Even Spybot & Ad-Aware couldn't find it. ~:mecry:

Uhm, Tosa, you have 4 posts?! ~
Well, it's hard to up your postcount when you moderate forums that don't increase postcounts! ~D

Strange. He also joined in 2002, despite the fact that he has posts going back ot 2000...
As for the pop-ups, i havent hand any trouble with them. Not even the little "pop-up blocked" Alert that appears at some sites.~

Probably needed a new admin account after changes or something.
No pop-ups here either; I'm using Safari under Mac OS X.

I just started getting them, but now I am getting 4-5 every time I click on a link within the org. I hope this gets resolved soon....
EDIT: It has mostly stopped now, I didn't do anything though....

Even though the pop-up blocker is working now, it's very annoying constantly having the little beeping sound and banner saying 'Pop-up blocked' every time i go to a new page.Suggestion: get a non-retarded pop-up blocker. Such as Firefox's built-in blocker, or maybe Google Toolbar or something if you're an evil heretical infidel IE junkie.

This is wierd - prior to local midnight (GMT-5) I was getting popups like crazy. This has only been a problem for me that past 2 or so days. Anyway, now it is past midnight and I'm getting an intel/Call of Duty 2(?) banner ad with sound (machine gun fire and an explosion) at the bottom of about half the pages. The first time was rather startling to hear at this hour.

The machine gun stuff really ~:pissed: me too and I added the source address to my blacklist (images) on Mozilla.

I hate ones like that...quietly working at the PC, not realizing the speakers are even on, kiddoes in bed, then out of nowhere BLAM!!!

It doesn't work for flash. Will need to find a proper extension to do the blocking. :knight:

Just installed AdBlock (http://adblock.mozdev.org/) and the ORG is a much finer place now.

When they had the StarWars adverts here it was horrible. I was surfing the .Org, playing nice relaxing pop opera, when suddenly the deafening noise of lasers pops out of nowhere.

I had that with Crazy Frog, but since then I just switch off the sound when browsing sites.
I use firefox. No problems with popups
