View Full Version : Missing Chromosome

Has anyone else noticed the absence of an "X" chromosome when playing Byz or other Orthodox factions late in the game?
I recently completed a Byzantine campaign at Ordinary level, VI 2.01, and noticed that despite producing adequate numbers of heavily-armoured male heirs, I stopped producing princesses after about 1150. I know I had some to start with so it can't be that the Byz don't acknowledge their girl children (I know Muslim factions don't get princesses). I just never seemed to get any.
Is this a regular feature or was I just unlucky? Currently I'm playing Spain and have never been more fertile - girls and boys aplenty.
Curious to know what others have experienced...

I had the same thing happen when I was playing Byz. For over ahundred years I had no girls but then suddenly they let a few out of the castle tower. I don't know if it is coded that way though.
There seems to be a gender preference for certain factions. Viking Kings seldom get daughters but there is no end to sons. Byzantines are also short on female progeny, while the Muslim factions get no daughters at all. It seems to be pre-programmed that some factions are more fertile than others and get more sons.

I am playing as the Spanish and there's no end to the princess that I have. In fact right now I have 6 princesses and NO mature princes. Civil war waiting to happen if my king dies prematurely :/

Princesses aren't too great anyways. I just marry them off to the generals I like.

I am starting to reserve my princesses almost exclusively for my generals. The alliances they forge are no stronger than regular anyways. I still try to trade them in the early game when I don't have that strong of generals anyways.

Inbreed, the AI hates giving princesses away to strong factions.

In the early game I only use my princess for scouting and spying to get a
feel for who has what. Around age 30 I always marry mine to a semi-loyal
general for the extra loyalty ~;) .
The gender of your monarchs children depends on the faction you're playing with. For example Muslim faction and the Horde never get princesses, while for example with the Spanish I always have at least four princesses. I think that having only male heirs is better because you can use them in battle and if they marry a foreign princess they can inherit their factions lands, while if your princess marries another factions prince she can't inherit anything.
