Last post for the day promise :O got work this afternoon anyway...

I hope this is the right place to post this. I was going to put it in the mod section but wasn't sure.

My brother showed me a little movie he made of his favourite flight simulator game last weekend and I decided to get fraps and have a go at making one myself. He doesn't really have the time to show me everything...so I thought I'd ask here.

The problem is that I'm recording at 50fps and the size of the files are sometimes 200 mb for a 30 second clip!! lol!?!

There are faq's at fraps regarding file compression etc but I am very new to this sort of thing.

I was wondering if anybody would be kind enough to help me out with some links etc for sites/posts made, that have editing programs or anything useful etc and also explain any copyright issues I might have to be careful about (if I post it as a download oneday ), as at the moment I'm having heaps of fun just capturing really cool battle scenes in RTW and have no idea really... ~:handball:

I would also like to add excerpts from the gladiator movie as music etc. So that's why I ask about copyright stuff. Can't beat that music for this sort of game :) :duel:

Also is there a way to save the battle replays from campaign? At all? Loading up fraps everytime etc is a bit of a pain... but I might miss a good opportunity for a cool scene. Kinda serious multi tasking playing a battle and taking clips too...

So if you have any useful info about this sort of endeavour please reply and thanks for your time ~

EDIT:
*Ugh...* Just found this... https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=462562#post462562

Thankyou for comprehensive tutorial eyeswater :)

Sorry for thread... delete at will! lol!

Well, I look forward to your movie whenever you get it done. I love it when people create movies for games. It adds a whole new dimension to the game.

set your framerate to 15 fps. you'll still get a big file (but not as big), and then when you edit it, etc. the file will compress down to something more manageable.

you're free to add music from anything, as long as you just intend to show your friends (ie. gaming boards) but if you intend to profit from it, then you might have trouble if the wrong person notices.

to edit, you can probably use the MovieMaker that should be on your computer, otherwise you'll have to learn to use something like Premiere Pro. I use it all the time, and it's easy, but if you just want a quickie movie, then you have to decide if the investment is worth it.

i've used ACA screen recorder to record the computer screen, and it has an easy Hotkey-function interface. So you can run it, then run RTW, and when you want, hit the Hotkey and start recording, etc.

Sadly not, sadly because the really cool battles happen in the campaign, you just can´t set them up. And using Fraps has the other disadvantage that you can only see what you saw during the battle. I don´t know about replays of custom battles, is the camera during the replays fixed or can it be moved about freely?

Moved about freely from what I remember.

One of my real gripes with RTW that you can't save in the campaign mode. Have some brilliant replays from MTW that wouldn't have happened by having a custom battle ie. fighting off hordes of reinforcements as well as just a main army. :duel:

SomeNick, I see you have found the old thread/tutorial I posted a long time ago. (Eyeswater/Augenwasser= same ~D)

There are a couple of things I would add to what was in the original thread which might prove helpful to you in your project.
For editing your fraps captures you should go get Virtualdub from here (http://www.virtualdub.org/) and if you dont already have Divx codec installed on your pc then get that here (http://www.divx.com/) and use that codec for when you compress your raw video captures as it dramatically reduces file size without too much loss of quality.

I'm betting your brothers favourite flight sim is the IL2-Forgotten Battles-Pacific Fighters series~D
There is a Movie making sub forum on the Il2 site that has a wealth of information and whatnot over there (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=frm&s=400102&f=65710358)

If you have any particular questions then ask away!
Look forward to seeing your movie~:)

Post here or make a new thread when you finish the movie. I would love to see it.~:)

Excellent stuff Augenwasser! Thanks again for that tutorial too!

My Brother's favourite flight sim is AcesHighII, an online WWII flight simulator game that's fairly popular and is great fun but I don't have enough time to get into it as a game unfortunatley as I'm too much of an RTW fan.

Yep, sure will AlexanderofMacedon. I will see what I can cut and splice over the weekend, well if I don't come up against anything too difficult to learn.

Cheers guys
