View Full Version : Non-functioning Danish inquisitors
Just finished playing as Denmark. Whilst I could create inquisitors and they could go on missions to 'inquisite', they always had 0% success chance whatever the piety of the target. And they always failed. They could be bumped off by assassins of the AI and they could also start revolts if left twiddling their thumbs too long. Any ideas why? The Danes are not even a catholic nation. This is the XL mod by the way, which also threw up a Golden Horde inquisitor with no picture.....
I don´t know about the XL mod, but i the plain game, zero-star inquisitors are notoriously bad at burning people. Ocassionally they roast the odd hundred peasants, but when it comes to nobles they perform poorly. I´m not much into the agent using myself, soI don´t know how to gain them some stars, but that would be my advice. As well perhaps plant a spy on the fellow you´d like toasted, maybe it reveals something useful for the inquisitor.

Hire a Muslim mercenary unit, or alternatively build a low-valor low-piety cheap unit, and turn your Inquisitors loose on them. They should burn quite readily, and will get your Inquisitors off to a good start gaining valor. Plus you get many, many chances at them, as each sucessful trial only eliminates one man from the unit. As your guys get better, you can use them on progressively tougher targets - in no time they'll be at 5 and 6 stars!

Not only the piety of the target matters but also the zeal and religion of the province. The presence of a bishop or cardinal slows them down to. Usualy, repeated inquisitions are necessary to convict him. Usually, the continued hounding will tunr the target into an atheist, making him easy prey for the inquisition.
After repeat inquisitions the target had the -8 piety athiest vice and still nothing.
I also think these fellows are too powerful for the game and don't like to use them - especially the grand inquisitor.

Unfortunately, the AI likes to use them against you.
What someone said about hiring a muslim merc unit applies. Of course, I found that these merc units attract other nation's inquisitors. They get all excited about those 0 piety scores. But my inquisitor gets first crack. What you can do is take the merc unit, and hit 'em with a spy to try the general, and at the same time, burn 'em with an inquisition. The spy goes first, and if he fails, the inquisitioner does his thing. Lather, rinse, repeat. After a few years of this, you'll have an experienced spy and inquisitor, and can send them both off to other duties, and start on a new pair of guys.
