has anyone noticed that the Siege towers are armed with these incerdibally powerful and fast shooting dart throwers.. its unbeliveable they just decimate entire units on thier brief roll to the wall. and it tears through colums of men its just like a 50 caliber machine gun

~

It was there in RTW too, but first now the AI has learned how to turn siege towers at 'fire at will', so that it is easier to notice now.

The first time I noticed this I just sat back and watched it was kinda funny to see a whole unit just get blasted apart lol. The Castle Towers also do the same thing in my experience. One of the more recent MODs for BI has fixed both nicely But I forget which at the moment it was .
I beleive Darths BI bug fix mod fixes it and so do some of the others .
I would say whos and which but I am afraid I would mix um up on ya and get in trouble lol.~

The AI is too easy to beat as it is, I prefer the challenge.

.50 cals you say? This changes my whole outlook on the BI purchase...

I need to test that fact on RTW version 1.3. In 1.2, hastati rushing my gates were often treated to a shower of arrows from the towers of my stone wall before a real hot oil bath at the gates.:rtwyes:

Indeed it is.

Tactic I tend to use now is to have a sacrificial unit up on the walls now for the siege tower to decimate before then charging in the good units when the siege tower is at the walls. Very gamey I know and realistically I would have been assassinated as an army commander for that ~D .

I have also had the "clever" AI tactic of standing right near a gate house of a city with epic walls to have half their units cut down by the ballistae in the towers. I was under the impression that this side of the AI had been improved but obviously not.

you don't always need a sacrificial unit, I find hiding your infantry on the next section of wall or at the bottom of the tower gives you time to get to the tower once it has stopped firing. I also keep archers out of the way if I can. I just use one or two to destroy rams that come my way. once that is done I can just wait until the AI runs out of footsoldiers to carpet the floor around the wall. (this is usually a good time to put the kettle on, especially with horde seiges).
