i dont see anything for the skins, and there is no entry for them in descr model battle so am i missing somthing its driving me nuts
It is as Khelvan told you, the texture is indeed part of the model itself. There are no independent .tga.dds files for chariots. The texture is "applied" in the .cas file itself.
Actually, that isn't entirely true. There are separate texture files, but the texture call is found in the model itself. There are no .txt file entries to call the chariot texture, as far as I know.

so basically its imposseble to change it unless you make a completly new unit?

.
I haven't tested but here is a kind of standard way of altering textures without manipulating the models themselves directly (which has worked in other games):
Open the model file in a Hex Editor. Find the references to the texture files. Note down the exact names. Now, make your new textures and give them filenames the exact length (number of characters) with the originals. Hex edit the model file to refer to the new textures.
Try at your own risk and backup the model files first. Hth!

You can easily find a Hex Editor at download.com etc. I recommend the shareware Hex Workshop. ~:)
