The incidents:
1) Mid-October: The EU and Turkey begin negotiations so that Turkey becomes a full member of the Union.
2) Late-October: A croud of raging "Grey Wolves", 10.000 strong, is gathered outside the Ecumenical Orthodox Partiarch's Estate, performing all kinds of acrocities, and embarassing the rest of the democratic and peacefull turkish society.
The question:
1) Is Turkey ready to confront with these savages? Is the frendly and hardworking people of Turkey realizing that these fanatics, these relics of the Dark Ages, are wolves indeed, devouring their god-given wright for a better future, a future of peace and prosperity?
2) Do the democratic people of Turkey realize that they will have to fight for their future?

Well actually they are relics of the 20th century. ~;p
Ok more to the point who are these democratic people of Turkey? How could they fight? You hav eto realize that things will not change because people want them to change. It's not going to be that way, not now not ever. The problem is unsolvable.

Why are you so pessimistic? If the people can't do it, who can? What do they expect? A divine intervention that will transform Turkey in a multy-cultural democracy?
The democratic people of Turkey exist, I m sure they do because turkish prisons are packed with political prisoners and journalists. They have to step up, lobby, turn to Europe for support, they have to do something instead of nothing. The Turks think Greece is their enemy, but they have to realise that their enemies are those who want them stuck in the past, because they have no place in Turkey's future.

Advosan,
1- This is the best of the worst reaction to a non-Muslim organization from a fanatic group you can ever see in a Muslim country. This does not make anything completely rightful, however. But I have to tell you that Ecumenical Orthodox Partiarch 's demands are seriously being discussed here. I'll gather more info on their demands and make my comment with my next post.
2- The point we are right now as Turkish society - somewhere still I can not think that it is real. I was worried about the stiffness of the minds here (BP is always an anti-Turk, by the way. He can not discriminate his emotions whne it is something about Turkey) This is something that you can catch up with reading the daily newspapers or keeping updated with news on Turkish TV. People really want to change here and they work out efforts - no matter how frequent it is.
But you have to make sure that "change" is always reacted in a society. We were given courses how people could stand stiff agains changes in a company for times. Taking a population of 70 millionw with Muslim majority into consideration, we are into light speed.
3- Greece being enemy ?
Turkish proverb : First pierce yourself with a needle, then someone with an awl. That means : Start thinking what's wrong with you first, then that you may criticise another. ~;)

How was what I said anti-turkish? I've never been anti-turkish, but I admit my general impression of turks is negative. But my impression is not my fault. I bet if I went there presented as a greek I would get beat up pretty fast though.

You deserve your status, BP.. BP in Wonderland ~D

Unfortunetly, I have to agree with that. Not just in refering to Turkish Nationalism, but to any kind of Nationalism. For example White Nationalists who still cling to their beliefs despite the horrors of WWII and Greek Nationalists who want Istanbul back, even though it has a population of 12 million muslims, which is more than the total number of Greeks living in Greece (lol, annexing Constantinople would make the Greeks a minority in their own country ~:joker:). But untill EVERYONE accepts the fact that history is in fact... HISTORY, things like this will happen...

Do the democratic people of Turkey realize that they will have to fight for their future? That is a question that only you and your fellow countrymen can answer. I would surely hope so. If I judge them by their military and political history, Turks can certainly put up a fight and persevere in the interest of higher ideals. Turkey also has a history of religious tolerance and sophistication that goes back well before the advent of the nationalists at the start of the 19th century. In that sense they have evolved along with the rest of Europe since 1648. The most promising sign of Turkey's recent situation in my view is its sustained economic growth; that is really a good omen for the further development of democracy and for future cooperation within the EU.

Is Turkey ready to confront with these savages?
Are they savages? I would say that they are just nationalistic, nothing wrong with that. When crowds gather things get broken, that is normal. We won't hold it against you ~:)
