After much thinking I decided to release another version of Pike & Musket TW mod for MTW VI before the Xmas.

It will be called PMTW 1.5.

It is still not the final release, but that will take too much time anyway, so I will allow playing much less sophisticated product, but still it has a lot of to offer:

- new campaign map,
- more than 600 completely new units from almost all nations of that time,
- new techtree with more than 70 completely new buildings and various structures,
- new historical battles with one historical campaign,
- new portrait sets and some new music ( films will be added later),
- new unit animations including warwagons, musketeers, pikemen in morions and Polish Husaria,
- 4 campaigns including English Civil Wars,
- more than 150 historical heroes,
- modified system of homelands, buildable mercenaries and others,
- dozens of new office titles,
- three controll panels - muslim, westerneuropean and Polish,
- about 30 factions in every single era available to play,

Overall almost complete recreation of 1480-1700 era's wars, politics and economy including colonisation of Americas and other lands overseas.

Great work especially on the Husaria. I always wanted to use them in battle. Do they also cause fear when charging in mass due to the noise from the feathers?

I highly doubt the noise from feathers would be noticeable considereing the massive yelling, thundering hooves, clash of steel on steel and constant barrages of cannon and musket fire.

That's just what I heard long ago in history class. No doubt it has a greater effect if you can't see them. Besides, what else would be the reason for all that elaborate feather work? Decorations only go so far and I know the noise would be quite noticeable if it was coming from behind you :charge: .

They did make noise, but they worked together with animal skins and pennants on the lances.

But the main use of the wings was to protect the cavalry against Tatar lassoos. Later it became the Hussars' major 'trademark' so they rarely fought without them.

Many new units appear in the new release 94 ( excluding those from ECW campaign) - if I counted correctly comparing to PMTW 1.0.

Because I am evil ~;p :hide: I will just mention some of their names without any descriptions or anything else, you can only guess who will get them:

Dragouni, Jarakisa, Kulogli, Algierian Lancers, Moss Troopers, Karolinska Ryttare, Guerrillada Restauracaro, Covenant Pikemen, Piqueiros do novo exercito, Hampas, Skilopere, Gwardia Piesza, Swiss Skirmishers, Poteshnyi, Gardes Francaises, Corazzieri, Armenian Archers, Sfakioti, Oprychniki, Cimaroons, Livonian Lancers, Iyalaras, Order Incendiary Musketeers, Rotularii, Rosiori and many, MANY, MANY more...

The testers will see them first, but the list was closed on Wednesday so REGRET ~;p if you are not one of them.
~D ~D Ha, ha - insert diabolical laugher - ha, ha ! ~D ~D

I will upload/send the testing version on Monday morning

TO ALL

I decided to delay the release by 10-14 days, so it will be available either in the week after the Christmas or just after the New Year's Day.

I want to give the testers more time, because there were several technical problems with beta tests.

In addition I need more testers or there will be another delay

factions ( 2 for each tester):

The Dutch, Hungary, Poland, England, Sweden, Brandenburg, Portugal, The Knights of St. John ( Maltanese or Hospitallier).

Volunteers please contact my by PMs as soon as possible.

I would soooo want to bagsit Poland since it is near enough me old fav faction in MTW and seeing their units in your mod makes my mouth water...
It actually gives me some pub ammo too, as none of my MTW playing mates ever wanted to believe that Poland rose to be the dominating power in Europe at that time and their armies were head and shoulders above anyone else present on any given 17th century battlefield. Ufff, there.

However it's christmas, innit, and I'm at my parents house, not a single MTW copy in sight and as soon as I'm back at mine (mid Jan) I have some serious work to do (that's what it's like to be old!:san_smiley: ).

But please, please do release the mod in New Year and if you're based in NI I'm prepared to send you a nice bunch of flowers or HMV vouchers or summat just to say thak you!!

Big respect:bow:

12-28-2005, 17:47
I think you will be delighted when the mod will be released.

I will post some new screenshots soon including some new discoveries I have made recently.

BTW - HMV you say, I think I have enough - the only thing I need is 24 series 1 ( I still haven't seen it, damn... and I can't this way watch the new series at all...) - I am trying to find it in the web if you know where tell me please.

Regards Cegorach :ave:

P.S. if you mention that Poland-Lithuania was the biggest christian country for more than 100 years ( 1385 - to around 1521 when Cortez conquered Mexico) you will see some jaws dropping to the floor level. :winkg:

Just show them a map from that era. After they call it a forgery they'll still have the visual in their mind. It's my understanding that they filled in the vacuum left by the horde.

cegorach

True.

Anyway here are more screenshots, many more in the XVI-XVII thread in the subforum.

It is another paradox typical for this mod. When I am trying someone to help me noone is able/willing to do otr nobody has enough spare time, but when I am announcing the exact date of the release I have a surge of volunteers.

For this reason I must dalay the release for at least another 2 weeks, but hopefully it will result with the new map and several new animations for units in the mod.

Here is the very first one in rather raw state, but it is better than nothing - Polish Dragoons are here:

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/1.jpg

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/2.jpg

Some new buildings were added as well finishing the techtree.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/catholicleague.jpg

including this state structure:

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/germanstate.jpg

the last of the new resources is here **don't mention Fawlty Towels***

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/germans.jpg

I have started adding new pictures for events as well.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/newevents.jpg

Here are some of the new icons for the mod - some Cossacks units here.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/icons.jpg

And FINALLY my pride - the result of lack of modding during Christmas.

I used something which was here all the time, but I really thought that I cannot do it, because it is so... rude and obviously will result in CTD, but... it didn't so it gives some really huge opportunities in making units which can change into different ones infantry to another infantry, infantry to cavalry, cavalry to cavalry, infantry to artillery etc.

see this example with Swiss Armoured Pikemen not using their full armour in this battle:

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/loosearmourswissbefore.jpg

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/swissafter.jpg

More to come.

In the next week I will upload early 1.5 version with selfinstaller and all the latest changes, I believe that I will prepare the final version rather soon because the rate I am adding something and finishing the mod is accelerating all the time.

Regards Cegorach :winkg:

There will be 4 campaigns - 3 in european map and one on British Isles.

The time frame is between 1480 and 1700, but for the game purposes some campaigns end later ( e.g. Religious Turmoil starts in 1572 so it is expected to end later than in 1700).

First of new cmapaign map pieces - castles

this one for some eastern european factions

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/newfort.jpg

Finally time to present an entire western type army !

Bavarian army from the second part of the 30 years war

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/bavarianarmy1.jpg

As you can see 2 infantry brigades 200 musketeers and 100 pikemen each form the center of the formation along with one heavy cannon - no regimental cannons yet.

Left flank.

Mounted arquebusiers in morions provide skirmishing screen.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/arqueb-bavarianarmy2.jpg

General's unit is made from heavy, black armoured Bavarian Cuirassiers. Later they will be replaced with lighter and cheaper cavalry only with small armour pieces - breast and backplate and helmet mostly. Still at that time these expensive horsemen are the kings of the battlefield in western europe.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/bavarianarmy3-generalblackcuirassie.jpg

Two infantry brigades are placed in the center. Pikemen are used to attack the enemy already weakened by musket fire - later their main task will be musketeer's protection, but now they are the very elite of infantry.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/bavarmy4-1stinfbrigade.jpg

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/bavarmy4-2ndinfbrig.jpg

Right flank consists of lighter and cheaper cavalry.

First there are arquebusiers armed with pistols, carbines and swords. Because cuirassiers are getting lighter and lose armour these arquebusiers will be the new cuirassiers on the battlefields of Europe.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/bavarmy5-arkebusiere.jpg

Finally even lighter cavalry - reiters who have no armour at all. This chaap and fast cavalry will replace previous arquebusiers when they will be transformed into new cuirassiers.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/bavarmy6-reiter.jpg

As you seesome units do not appear in the army like Dragoons which were still quite rare or eastern type cavalry called Croats, but not every commander used them anyway.

More units in progress.

Now another presentation.

Polish komunik ( cavalry strike force) Ukraine around 1644 ready to hunt down Tatar raiders.

Right flank consists of two units recruited among Ukrainians.

- Polish Dragoons ( Dragoni) were very useful in steppes providing more firepower than any other cavalry. Because most of them were Ukrainians they were cheap to hire, although their loyalty during some Cossack rebellions left much to be desired leaving in masses during Khmelnickij Rebellion, which caused a lot of problems.

Cossack cavalry. Some were a part of register ( Kozacy Rejestrowi), and although most were very good infantrymen, their cavalry was employed as well, mostly because it was cheap. Famous irregular Cossack Lancers appeared much later.

Polish nobility ( Szlachta) was supposed to be ready to fight as a part of militia-like forces called the Levy. Usually more troublesome than useful, there were exceptions like these ukrainian Polish nobles who were used to warfare and their morale and discipline was much higher than in other regions of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth ( Rzeczpospolita).
Usually armed with sabres, bows and pistols they provided numbers rather than high quality forces, but were very useful nonetheless.

Quarter forces - regular army

Medium-light cavalry called Kozacy provided multi-purpose horsemen units armed primary with carbines and pistols, bows were much less popular weapons - contrary to popular beliefs firepower was essential factor in Polish army. These cavalrymen wear kolczuga armour and still use armoured gloves similar to those in western armies.

Husaria in much looser formation than when fighting enemy infantry is the sledgehammer of this army. They are armed with 5 m hollow lances, which not often were used against Tatars where additional speed was more useful - they usually relied on long swords called koncerz and pistols when figting fleet hooved nomad forces. This time however they are supposed to use the lances, which scared Tatars so much, that the very sight of them was often enough to break their morale.

Pancerni cavalry appeared to replace Kozacy and provide chaper alternative ( to some extend) for Husaria. They replaced western armoured gloves with karwasz armguard armour plates and are heavier armoured than Kozacy. Still their main task was the same as Kozacy - multi-purpose cavalry supporting Husaria with their firepower.

A number of Lithuanian and Polish Tatars were serving in the army of the Republic even against their former countrymen. Even if often they remained muslims they were given the same rights as catholics, orthodox or protestant christians.

More militia from this frontier country adds necessary numbers and more speed as a completely unarmoured light cavalry.

Another presentation

Tatar army - somewhere in Ukraine late XVIIth century

It is a typical force consisting only of cavalry, nothing unusual for one of the last nomad armies.

The army was guided by tatar scouts ( Izci Tatarlar) who now still form a part of vanguard on the left wing of the formation.
Notice that they are eqipped with an additional horse. A common feature in nomad armies, in PMTW only some Tatar units have them which makes them more resilent to anemy firepower and hives them more stamina.
They are able to hide everywhere lying with their steeds in long grass, behind a small hill or using any other kind of cover.

Tatar with arkans are placed on the left flank ready to use their skills as slave hunters against enemy, especially heavier cavalry.
* the unit idea was based on several remarks that Tatars employed numerous soldiers to seize valuable enemies which could be later sold back for a decent ransom. They were especially useful against heavy cavalry including knights who were especially vulnerable to their lassoos.

The bulk of the army are light, swift horsemen called Atli Tatarlar armed with bows and sabres, but Khan's bodyguard consists of these Kirim Suvari - tatar armoured cavalry, so better used to prolonged combat.
* tatar leaders and their nobility were using armour if possible. There is a good reason to gather them in units on their own.

Firearms were rarely used in Crimean armies, in fact ordinary tatars were prohibited from using it at all. Untill XVIIIth century it didn't matter anyway, since bows were more accurate and a skilled archer could achieve very impressive rate of fire launching even 4 arrows before the first one reached its target. Combined with lack of armour in enemy armies (slowly abandoned because of gunpowder weapons) it meant that they could achieve much with bows alone. Still some soldiers from royal domains were trained in use muskets and acted as mounted infantry. They rarely appeared on the battlefield, still when the Khan was present or their presence was deemed necessary they were used in small numbers. Tatar yenicheri-like infantry also existed, but their use was even less frequent, mostly in sieges.
* the mounted infantry called Segmen appears in many sources, it seems there were 10 'companies' of them. The problem is that it is hard to tell when they were introduced to the Crimean army, it is even possible that it happened in the XVIIIth century, beyound the timeframe of the mod. I decided to add them in the late period of the mod. Because I wanted to make them look unique I used Polish Dragoon animations which still have eastern 'look' and there is a good reason that the Tatars really adopted similar uniforms - weather conditions and polish cultural influence ( Khans used Polish in diplomatic correspondence even with other nations like Cossacks, Russians etc) give a good reasonto believe it is acceptable.

The majority of Tatar population were badly armed horsemen who joined the army to loot avoiding starvation and saving lives of their family during the frequent periods of famine.
Sometimes even without a sabre and armed with a horse jaw on a stick ( called 'maslak' in Polish) they were still born horsemen and shouldn't be undereastimated. When the opportunity appeared they could be used to attack enemy flank or rear or even to overrun isolated enemy musketeers it it was possible and if they were brave enough to withstand firepower of their infernal weaponry.

Some Tatars were especially good horse archers. In game they are placed in Kipchak Asker - cavalry using flaming arrows to kill its foe and set building on fire.
* Tatrs were using flaming arrows quite frequently when trying to overrun enemy forts made most often from wood. Besides it gives them another way to destroy fortifications, they need it since artillery is hard to get for them.

The end.

More animations are in progress, including some of the older ones redesigned, remade or upgraded like one of the most important units in game - Polish Husaria.

They are not ready yet, but I wanted to show you how good work YanTraken is doing.

Time for some screenshots...

Let's start with some eastern european stuff, shall we ?

Historical battles are slowly transformed thanks to the new animations

Klushino 1610

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/impressive.jpg

Some new units

Russian Oprychniki NKVD from the XVIth century. They were wearing black uniforms and placed severed wolf's heads on their saddles to show that they will have no mercy to any opposing Ivan the Terrible's orders.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/oprychniki.jpg

Ottoman Delil - 'hot-headed' cavalry mainly from Serbia. They were wearing most impressive uniforms at that time, but like the Ladsknechts before there was nothing to question their fearsome reputation.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/deli2.jpg

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/deli1.jpg

Many eastern antions used warwagons to create mobile strongholds incredibly useful in the steppes especially against cavalry. They were carrying supplies as well so this way the usually the weakest part of the marching army ( baggage train) became one of the strongest ones.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/wozy.jpg

Many nations had their own dragoons sometimes wearing different clothes and even wearing armour like these imperial dragoons

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/imperdrag2.jpg

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/impdr1.jpg

Most of them were unarmoured

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/swdrag2.jpg

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/swdrag1.jpg

Many dragoon units from late XVIIth century had uniforms amazingly similar to the ones used in Poland - one of the results of polish-french contacts ( many Frenchmen served in polish dragoon units) and the victory at Vienna in 1683 - England for example created one dragoon unit wearing the uniforms intended to be in 'polish fashion'

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/frdrag2.jpg

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/frdrag1.jpg

One century earlier...

Burgundian cavalry formed elite of Spanish horsemen - they were called Archeros and used lances to deadly effect

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/archero.jpg

Petronel were light cavalry using calivers - smaller arquebuses. Their willingless to fight was questionable, but provided the army with a useful skirmishing screen.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/petronel.jpg

Thanks to the impressive work of the ORG member Inal the Great Circassia is added on late as a new, quite interesting faction.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/KIZIL1.jpg

Circassian cavalry - these particular ones are called Werq Dzhigit - noble cavalry armed with carbines more often than with bows.

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/CIRCASSIANS2.jpg

I menaged to make this devil on wallachian shield much bigger and easier to see, no you don't need so much imagination to notice them, but nothing better can be done - at least by me...

https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/cegorach/devilsskeleton.jpg

Lancers from early XVIth century. Contrary to many similar units German cavalry used diamond shaped formations so please free to use them in battle.

Now I can say it - release in 13-14 days.

There shouldn't be any more delays, bt I won't sleep for too long in the coming days...
