We have a Blacktown, Redfern etc... I don't think this is the kind of thing to get worked up about, unless it becomes a drawcard for race hate groups...

They can change it if they want... or not- doesn't matter to me. If I lived there, Id vote to keep it- PC is no reason to change your town name anymore than it is to strip a cross off your city seal.

I'd use it as a popularity stunt to increase the local economy.:balloon3:

Honestly, I wouldn't care either way.

I would only care if I lived there, and only because of the issues associated with changing your town's name. It isn't an instant and easy process, to my knowledge.

i agree, to a certain point. changing the name is less a step in the right direction and more of a burden on business owners who'll need to pay for new stationary, signage, etc. so it's hurting business and not helping it.

that said, do u feel the same way about confederate flags as part of a city's or state's identity?

Who cares.

Let's rename the Indians and Redskins while we're at it.

This all gets taken to far. My lovely wife now refers to all blacks as "african-americans". Even if the blacks are in africa. As in, the african-americans of the congo.
~:joker:

Blacks are black. I'm white. Who gives a flying ****. I'm going to rename my home in the spirit of the wealthy. You know, like monticello et al. I'll call my house, "white dude's stucco-box".

ya. you like that? take it! take it like you like it. cry for me.

If companies like WalMart and Home Depot leave town your problem is much bigger than the name. That place must suck, the taxes are probably stupid high and the citizens poor and uneducated, and the schools crap and the water tastes like sulphur I imagine.

so, yeah, don't change the name of the town. Everyone just move out or start a carnival or something you will need it.

Texarkana has a whole spectrum of people. Lots of Rednecks in that part of the state. Its got Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisana Rednecks all coming to work there.

In otherwords DA its like most other places in the nation - some wealthly, a large middleclass, and a large sector that lives below the proverty line. Now define what you believe to be scum - since their might still be a large trailer park community in Texarkana

There is a town here in NC named 'Comfort'. I always thought it would

be cool to tell people you lived 'in Comfort' ~ . There is another

named 'Climax', but I will not go into that ~:joker: .

There is a “Climax” in Michigan too. This is no lie… it is located between I-69 and the Penetrateor (a junction of roads that lead into downtown Battle Creek). I always thought it would be funny if their school mascot would be a “Trojan”. ~;)

Nope its not like Austin at all. Texarkana is alot like anyother mid-size city in the South. If you have been in Fort Smith, Arkansas; Tulsa, OK; Little Rock, AR; Shreaveport, LA and yes even parts of the Dallas Metroplex - the out laying cities like Rockwall, a little father south Waco, you will have the scope of the type of people that live in Texarkana - and how the economy is.

To the east and north of Texarkana is also a large paper mill in Arkansas. I believe the town is called Aston or Ashton. So don't move in that direction - since it has a smell from the processing of wood into paper.

hmmm....thoughts?

Over reaction because of the name and because of industry and business moving out of the city because they can not grow within the scope of the city plan.

Changing the name will not change the fact about where the city is located and that it can not expand to insure industry will be able to utilize the properties within the city limits.

Instead of changing their name - they need to look at getting themselves incorporated into another city.

Don't worry folks the returns are coming in and the name will remain the same - with over 50% of the vote counted - over 75% of the voters rejected the name change.
