I'm not sure about the new ones, but some I like are:

Misfits
Ramones
Sex Pistols
GBH
Bad Religion
Rancid
Dead Kennedys
Bunch of F****** Goofs (Sorry mods, there's not much other way to give that band's name).
Dayglo Abortions

In my mind the only good one in that group is the Dead Kennedys

To each his own...

I guess I forgot to mention I really don't like punk...I'm more of a new metal guy...

Godsmack all the way!

also...
if you want the Misfits then you should get their boxed set because it contains remastered versions of almost everything they recorded.

If you have ever listened to the original recordings you will understand why the remastered versions are so wonderful.

I don't listen to much punk, but some Misfits recordings are alright (they have a classic heavy metal feel to them). I also liked the Bad Brains and the Beastie Boys' early stuff (no, really, it's old-school hardcore). Motörhead also deserves a mention.

No mention of Public Image, Ltd. (PiL) in a punk thread? or are they no longer considered punk?

Ah you beat me to it. But for your classic punk, one must go sex pistols and the clash

Well, bumpimg into Streetlight Manifesto was a total coincidence for me, way too absurd story to tell you.. However they are a very quality ska punk band that I see a bright future on..

Good ol' Offspring and Green Day stands stil.. And Bad Religion has already been mentioned..

Dead Kennedys. Just saw Jello Biafra in town a few weeks ago. Still intense.

This is what you want, this is what you get...

Don't really know of any of the newer punk bands (given the state of the music and politics today, we should be in for another punk-like indie invasion here soon). I still listen to the old-school stuff, Misfits, Sex Pistols, Black Flag, etc., along with the later derivations like Prong, Ministry, and some of the industrial metal bands.

Listening to old school punk today, you realize how bad it was, but in a good way. Production was terrible, the bands could barely play their instruments, but the music and feeling was real. Not sterile like most of today's music. And, yes, I had to walk uphill, both ways, in three feet of snow, with no jacket (but I did have steel-toed boots) to see punk bands in my day! ~D

Joy Division

Nah, Joy Division aren't punk music, they are just the new wave milestone. Most brilliant band anyway (in a dark and silently loud way ofcourse;))

Warszaw

Yes, that's Joy Division's punk version - although categorisation is something I hate at least pertaining to music.

Rollins ruined Black Flag.
The early stuff is far better, Get the first four years CD and you'll see what I mean.

Is he still doing his standup comedy?

He is. Saw him last month in Albuquerque, and it was great...

I never -really- liked his singing - no matter with whom he played. For me it was more about the ... mmh, performance sounds a bit weak to describe it- the intensity of his "performance". Pre Rollins Black Flag is not my cup of tea. Intense, yes, and live they were great. But I liked them more with Rollins. And Rollins Band was (IMO) the next step.

But Henry always polarized the fans. He's a love him or hate him kind of guy.

I want to like his "art" because I enjoy interviews with him but I just can't get into it. His poetry is especially annoying.

His stand up is fun because it's like watching a crazy guy.

He surely has a lot of issues.

Well...yeah... I also take his "poetic" ramblings with a grain of salt. "Black Coffee blues" and "Get in the van" are great books though.

The first five.... you have to be in the mood for(he,he)
