I am developing standard Iron man rules for
optional use in some campaign mod I am developing. Each campaign mod will be designed around the human playing a specific faction. The campaign game will have self imposed objectives for the human player of capturing Rome, Constantinople, and establishing the Crusader states regardless of normal MTW victory conditions.

The idea is to make the campaign mod very challenging, difficult, yet retain the historical ambience of the medieval age.

Here are my thoughts:

- Game setting on Expert (duh!)
- No reloading of games
- Don't change your army starting position on the battle map.
- Royals must be used as generals wherever possible for attacking. If this isn't possible, then a royal unit must be present in an attacking army.
- No suicides or deliberate initiating of civil war to get rid of bad kings or royals
- No pillaging tactics. Captured provinces are must hold.
- No use of agents. Inquisitioners used only in your provinces. Inquisitioners may not be used against Royals. Daughters may be used as spies and to form alliances.
- No alliances with neighboring factions. Refuse all offers of alliances unless they are in the form of a marriage. Catholics and Orthodox may not ally with Muslim countries. Alliances may be initiated only through use of daughters (marriages).
- No creating of uber-powerful armies. Half the units in an army must be composed of urban militia, spearman, and at least 2 peasant units. This was the historical composition of medieval armies.
- Generals with a combat rating greater than 5 can not lead attacking armies unless they are crusades. Leaders greater than 7 have to be disbanded (beware the gratitude of kings!).
- Crusades may only be used against Muslims and must be directed towards the retaking of Jerusalem and Antioch and follow a direct course there.
- Factions must be eliminated wherever possible.
- No long distance naval invasions.
- Honor alliances wherever possible if they are of the same religion. You can freely break alliances with factions with different religions.

Please share your thoughts.

BTW, Danish Crusades are true to history.

You may not care about war, but war cares about you!
