View Full Version : War of the Roses Flags and Badges
Would anyone have pictures of flags and pennons used by nobles in the War of the Roses? I'm replacing the castle flags right now and I'd like to use the heraldic pennons of the nobility. So far I've got Audley, Tudor and Stafford. Need Stanley, Grey/Woodville, Butler, Edward of York, Neville, Mowbray, Howard, de la Pole, Beaufort, Courtenay, Scrope, Hastings, de Vere and Fitzalan.
Thanks,
Gloucester

i am uncertain if these will be found in libraries,
but you never know your luck.
they used to have a website but it appears to have vanished.
here is a list of the books http://www.lanceandlongbow.com/lls_publications.html
A darned good reference to use here would be a copy of the classic board wargame Kingmaker. They have most of the shields you are looking for, and more...as cardboard game pieces.
Aha! For your viewing convenience, I just managed to find a site with some people playing via web: http://andromeda.star.bris.ac.uk/king/

looks very usefull!
although the edward I spotted was lancastrian, and not yorkist?
if they are the same person the shield should not matter - lots of people changed sides,
some seemed to make a hobby of it
:-)
I doubt Edward IV would have swapped sides and become Lancastrian http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
different Edward.
There were two Prince Edwards... well a whole lot actually... Prince Edward of Wales (Lanc), Edward of March (York), Edward of Wales (York, his son, Prince of the Tower), Edward of Middleham (son of Richard III) and Edward of Clarence (son of Clarence)
