Take a look at the picture I selected for my avatar. See that? Princess "horseface"?

This explains why all those kings keep sending back letters saying, "oh, yes, well, um, sorry, no, can't marry the girl, no, just too busy getting the peasant levies to pave the roads and wax the cat, you know how it is. Call back next quartering day!"

*shudder* They can't all be that ugly.

Higher influence will help. Unless you are already very large in which case no one likes you any more.

Well you can actually replace or add your pictures of choise as princesses. ~;p
Still doesn't help the marriage rates though. ~;)

I think your first avatar was better. Couldn't you at least chosen a better looking one. And as for marrying them you really can't blame the guy for not wanting to marry her. He maybe would have rather chosen one of prince Erik's silk-clad boys.

They all look like that, it´s really scary. Some remind me of some old Dracula movie ghosts :hide: . No wonder so many guys rather bother their pageboys.

There are VI princeses that are more good looking than than "regular" ones.

Some of the VI princesses look decent, but "decent" is still a distance from "good". But I agree, some of those are an improvement, even if they´re a step back in history.

I agree, politics play a great part in getting that princess to earn her keep.

There's got to be a way to substitute pictures of Pamela Anderson instead of the standard pics. :p

Open your MTW folder, go into campmap, go into portraits. When there add or replace the pics with pics of your choise. ~;)
I suspect that you'll need the same size as the original TGA files there, but that isn't hard to fix.

Only downside is that others can't play your savefiles, but that's only a problem when playing PBM.

This is just my opinion, but for the record I wouldn't say she was "Horse Faced."

More like "Man Faced."

Maybe your ruler shouldn't dress his sons up like girls and try to send them off.

I once had my Spanish king produce 5 Isabellas... he was dubbed the most uncreative dad ever. On the plus side, I did get a few cute ones. But what does it matter? You have bigger problems than ugly portraits if you're trying to get your jolies off of MTW women.

Who are you to judge me!!!!!~:mecry:

......And besides, I much prefer the little images of bloated, sweaty looking generals:frog: . Those girls are just downright ugly 98% of the time.

El Cid's has the best general's portrait, though I haven't ever gotten Lionheart as a hero so I dunno if he's the number one pretty boy general.

The only problem with Lionheart is his 'pervert' trait ~:pissed: . I guess

pretty boy's problem is he likes other pretty boys.

You gotta cut those girls some slack as they were mostly inbred, didn't wash, had lap dogs to attract the flees and were shopped around like an old Buick. All things considered those pictures are probably kind.

Does Richard comes out as a hero? He's a heir/ famous king in campaign and his potrait is random. Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't see Richard on English Famous Heroes list either.

As for the girls, most MTW chicks are better than VI ones. That's just me. That one above is ugly though.

Aren´t the portraits randomly assigned? At least in the portrait folder there are none of historical personalities, apart from the pics for the historical campaigns.

El Cid has a unique portrait, or at least I've never seen it on any body else. Looks like the actor who played 'em in the 70s(?), Bronson, I think.

I've never seen the other heroes that have portraits in the game, only in the historical campaigns, so I can't speak for them.

Anyway, VI girls > MTW girls, whoever said otherwise is sick.

'Sides, tastes were very different back then. Go take a look at some Renaissance art, for one thing they seemed to like chubby women an awful lot. Also these are royalty, go to the medieval portrait gallery of your local art gallery, they're a plain bunch all in all. There's a few stunners (is it wierd that I can say that about someone centuries dead?) but no more than common among the commoners I'd reckon

The portrait "industry" really kicked off in the Netherlands when the mercantile class rose to power, so there's a lot of books on the subject of portraits at least not that far from the M:TW period. I've actually been to a exhibition on the subject, and to be frank, the M:TW girls would definately be on the higher tier in a competition with those women. But to be honest, the guys were also reeeeally ugly, judged by modern views of beauty.

Charlton Heston (who later became President of the NRA) played El Cid in the only movie on the subject that I can recall.

From Wikipedia:

El Cid is a 1961 film which was a highly romanticized story of the life of the Castilian knight El Cid. It starred Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren and was directed by Anthony Mann.

It was shot in Spain. The castle and beach of Peníscola appear as Medieval Valencia.

Yeah, that's how I try and remember him, the gun nut!
I loved that film as a kid. It's usually on around Christmas, I'll have to make sure and watch it again.

straying off the Charlton Heston thing (sorry!) i think the princesses in VI have some very cute noses, and better hair than in MTW. unfortunately i could never fancy anyone called Aethelfleda, it sounds like someone sneezing.

anyway...mediaeval portraits were indeed done deliberately to flatter the subject, especially princesses being shopped around Europe. the most notorious case being Hans Holbein the Younger's treatment of Anne of Cleves for Henry VIII's viewing pleasure...to quote
"It was usual for court painters to be flattering in their portrayal of important people, and it is likely that Holbein covered up the evidence of Anne's smallpox scars." there is some evidence that this made Holbein rather unwelcome at court when Henry VIII actually met his new bride...

some of the 'Caliph' portraits look like the ones i've seen of Suleiman the Magnificent...
