I'm wondering are there any advantages of being a senior member, or is just an honor?

There used to be some small privileges (IIRC no flood control, ability to start threads in the watchtower), but now it is just down to an expanded PM box.

Despite that, I was very proud when I was made senior member.

How do you become a senior member? After some time period, a certain number of posts, do you have to be voted for a senior member? I know I'm far away from that I'm just interested.

There was a time when it was... 5?

No time, no number of post, no vote (or maybe a mod vote). I don't know how it happens, but the usual answer from Tosa or some oddly talkatvie mods is: make good contributions, write guides, mod stuff...

I haven't done bookkeeping, but it was something like: not at all, 5, 10, 20, 40. Main reason for this is that the UBB forum, used 3 years ago, didn't support it at all, the new board did, but I put a limit on it to avoid performance issues. I am overly cautious there, as the whole board has been shut down before.

From the Guild FAQ (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=45416):

Senior Member
Senior Member is an Honorific, used to recognize members' contributions to the overall good of the Org.

Contributions can range from creative endeavours (such as mods, art, guides and stories) to leadership and commitment (organization of community efforts, running events) to being a fine, honourable, upstanding member of the community. It is a way to recognize and say "thank you" to those who make the TW community a better place. Post count doesn't matter much: there are Senior Member's with less than 400 posts, and Members with thousands.

Two or three times a year, the Staff nominates Members who they feel are deserving of the Senior Member title. Only 10-12 Senior Memberships are approved; if more are nominated, that list is whittled down to the required number.

Senior members get a slightly larger PM mailbox, a title under their avatar, free beer at KukriKhan's house (although apparently none have so far shown up!), and the publicly displayed respect of the community.

1.because it's not the same Tosa as before. Every new admin we get assumes the mantle of Tosa Inu, but starts as a new user, thus a new post count.

2.also notice tha Tosa tends to post mostly in here, which does not add to postcount.

3.one of these three statements is not true.

Gregoshi
11-16-2005, 04:38
They aren't all Dutch BP, it just seems that way.~;) In the current regime (aside from Tosa), barocca is Australian and KukriKhan is American. For the past admins, I'm not sure about Tera, but Kurando, I believe, was (and probably still is) Canadian. Erado San is Dutch too, but I'm not sure if he was ever officially an admin. Farther back than that goes into my early, sporatic lurking days so I won't comment on those mythic days.

I'm sure one of the old, old guard will correct any mistakes I may have made.

Papewaio
11-16-2005, 04:39
It was orginally setup by an Aussie... and we have had plenty of Aussies as mods and administrators since the dawn of the org.

Canadians and Americans are very popular choices as well.

The Dutch get in because they are the coolest Europeans... and according to out UK moderators they are only part of Europe to annoy the French ~D

Papewaio

Tera was from Malta

Piece of cake: make your way to Interstate 15 Southbound, take the Valley Parkway exit, turn right (west), travel 1.5 miles to Citracado Ave, turn right (north), and right again...on the security pad type 'tworg' (89674), thru the gate to #57; park; use the back door; knock twice, hollar: "Viva El Org!!", left down the hallway to the kitchen; beer in fridge, bottom shelf.

Sit in one of the Barcaloungers, and notice the phone nearby. Dial "KUKRITW" (5857589) and let me know you've arrived.

Cheers.

p.s. Mrs. Kukri lives here too, so please accomodate her wish that we put empty beers in the chrome trashcan, not the green one, and any smoking must occur out of doors.

Very intersting. I've been gone from the .Org from quite some time and was elevated from lowly assistant mod in the backroom to the exalted status of Senior Member.

P.S. If you're an assistant mod in the backroom they make you sweep the floor. The floors are nasty. Have your ever looked at the floors?
