Well I've just DL it, and finished the training levels fairly easily.
And have now started my first online battles, honor 10.
I must say the battles are a lot of fun, especially if you can coordinate your moves with your team, you always see the guys who go solo getting shot while walking head long to the enemy position...
I too had to learn that the hard way ~;)
So far I haven't killed any team mates yet, have been the victim of a TK once - a badly times grenade.
Overall the attitude on the chat is Ok, you get the usuall stupid people who shout noob, and f*ag alot.
Too bad, but you always can expect those type of people..
Anyway, have any Orgers Dled the game?
If so what are your AA names, and are you op for a match, we can even make a clan - or something like that ;)
Could be lots of fun

There's a few threads on this game already. Check back a few pages. One of the threads is about 3 pages long.
Dutch_guy

yes, I know the exact thread you are talking about , come to think of it.
Though that thread is really outdated, and the persons who replied in that thread - aka who played MP - probably don't do so anymore after such a long time.
A fresh thread concerning AA seemed like a better idea.

Fair enough. Is the latest version of AA still 2.4?
Dutch_guy

The latest version is 2.5.0
So you'd need to patch it up, if your still running 2.4

I'm not running anything. I uninstalled to make space for BI. Which kinda takes the mick, cos BI doesn't work.
Don´t forget to register here (http://aaotracker.4players.de/portal.php).~:)
And this (http://aaotracker.4players.de/usertracker.php?userid=87603) is me. I know Sjakihata plays as well, but I leave it to him to reveal his account.~D
Concerning a clan, I´m not interested at the moment, there are just too many choices, so I chose to choose none.~;)

Yeah, well, the clan remark was of course nothing more than a speculation on my part.
knowing that I'd like to learn to play the game a little better before I commit myself to a clan- or something like that.
But anyway, do you still play Husar ?

I have now played this game for more than 2.5 years. So I know my way around. Im honour almost 83 ;)
check all my stats here: http://aaotracker.4players.de/usertracker.php?userid=69787
Right now Im in a regiment called PARA - you are welcome to join up check here: http://www.parachute-regiment.co.uk/
Any questions - ask away. Oh btw, you CAN go solo and get a lot of kills.
check out this screen shot.
https://img14.imageshack.us/my.php?image=21kills9wi.jpg
Im called PTE-Skafsgaard[PARA. You'll see I have 210 points under enemy - mean 21 kills and -10 in KIA, means one death. So while I killed 21 enemies during those seven rounds, I got wasted once. Some have even crazier pics. Also note the honour points of the opposing side, it's not low so they are talented players.

That screen is Impressive Sjakihata, very nice.
So, I do have a question , are you more of a rusher or a ''camper'' - not the literal meaning of the latter.
And what does being a SF soldier ( honor level 15 ) add to your experience, or how does it benefit your combat skills -if it does.
thanks

My playing style very much vary - depending on what map I play. On CSAR it can be good both to camp, or play carefully. It is also smart to rush as well - and avoid the initial spam firing.
And what does being a SF soldier ( honor level 15 ) add to your experience, or how does it benefit your combat skills -if it does.
First of all, it allows you to play as teh special forces, that uses the M4 SOPMOD. Some maps are only for SF players. Other than that - nothing really.
My best mod is this:
Acog x4 or Aimpoint (for smaller maps)
M203 grenade
Silencer

Maps
Hour wise it is:
SF Hospital 283 hours
MOUT McKenna 209 hours
Pipeline & Pipeline SF total 104 hours
SF CSAR 88 hours
Urban Assault 41 hours
My favorite maps right now are:
SF CSAR
Urban Assault
McKenna
SF Sandstorm
I don't really like the new maps...

Hospital ( SF ) is my favorite at the moment, it seemes easy to get experience in that level.
And I try to stay away from Urban assault, to much nade spamming for my liking.
And also , which maps are new ? ( I have no idea since I've started playing when it was 2.5 )

Looking back at the AA site DL links, I think I used "SeeMePlayMe."
And the DL speed isn't only on their side. My family has DSL, which is split over a router so me, my brother, and my dad can share it with the main PC.
I did enjoy AA, so maybe I'll give it another go sometime.

AA is fun, but it is Rainbow Six lite imvho, it is a decent squad based military shooter but it lacks realism and the need for tactics. Worst of all is far ranged combat as the engine blurs what's before you, fun but no keeper.
I have played this game before, i have just updatet the game again to infact.
Any tips on the SF field training? (Sneaky one)

I disagree strongly with all of that. The engine doesnt blur - but in some maps fog has been put there, to balance the game. Because the snipers would be too effective at some maps. Try playing bridge SE or SF Recon - you'll notice there's not smoke.
AA is nothing like rainbow six - so much different. In a unit/clan you can use succesful tactics.
Somebody Else
11-28-2005, 20:09
Though I have to agree about the balancing aspects of the fog regarding snipers, I do think it unrealistic. Firstly that the fog is there, secondly that a section sized detachment would include a sniper or 2. Snipers are rarely to be found on the battlefield, and when they are - they're generally only shifted with mortar-fire. They're typically left behind to stall an advance of an infantry force anything up to a few companies in strength.
In other words, a sniper should be a dominating force on the battlefield - an infantryman armed with a standard assault rifle has a range of 300 metres on his own - up to 800 metres harassing fire when the full squad is blazing away. A sniper on the other hand has a deadly range of up to ~800 metres (depending on the rifle in question) with harassing a few hundred metres further (limb being blown off rather than head).
Having the snipers in there is unrealistic, having them crippled is even more so.
Of course, doesn't stop me playing - it is a game after all.
I used to play a long time ago. Decided to get back into it just now.
Real pain that I have to download the full 903MB 2.5 version even though I already have the full 2.3 version installed on my system.
Is there any to make it so you don't have your team switched on you mid-match against your will? I really really really hated that about this game last time I played. Ditto with when I am playing as USA Special Forces guy and all of a sudden I respawn as a Muslim with crappy weapons. I hate that just as much. Any way to avoid that crap being done to me?

not that I know of Navaros, its just a feature to balance the teams better.
Since people tend to pick the winning team.

The longer you stay on a server, the higher priority you get though.
I reinstalled and played this afternoon again. I noticed that for some reason even while crouching or in prone, I couldn't get my "battle ready" meter to go anywhere near the top. What's up with that? I think I even went prone with the A/R and then used the mount for it, and it still didn't go near the top. Isn't that meter supposed to go near the top once you are prone for a while?
Also, I inadvertently dragged the "America's Army" listing out of my Windows XP Start Menu. I was trying to drag the listing to the end of my programs list, and instead of it moving it to where I wanted it to go, it took it completely off my Start Menu. Any way to get that back on my Start Menu without reinstalling the program?
Sjakihata

about the CEM (Combat Effectiveness Meter).
You can only get it completely full if you go prone, mount out, iron sights up, and have your squad leader or captain near you. The leader will provide the last bit.
Look where you installed AA and make a shortcut to you desktop from the exe.
Ah, thanks for the explanation.
Boy, I suck at this game. LOL. Strangely enough, I am pretty good at Enemy Territory; yet when it comes to America's Army, it is rare that I'll kill anyone before I die. I wonder why that is.
Seems my aim is always a little off whereas anyone who is aiming at me has impeccable aim.
Some more things I don't understand:
1. How do you defend against blackout grenades?
2. How does the enemy see you after he throws a blackout grenade at you?
3. How come there is no "distance meter" when you're throwing a grenade, like in other FPS games?
4. Is the amount of Honor you get dependant upon the amount of players in the game; the map; the server you are on? What are the factors that determine this? Ie: I can get a lot of Honor winning on the "Pipeline" map. Yet if I win just as much on the on the "FLS Assault" map, I get hardly any Honor. Why?
5. How come every time I start the game, it reverts back to "windowed mode" even though I had it set to "fullscreen mode"?
6. At what point, exactly, does Honor get added to your account? At the moment it's added to your score; at the end of the round; at the end of the set of rounds?
FesterShinetop

Actually not that strange that you are very good at ET and not so good at AA (yet ~;) ) as these are very different games that require very different playing styles!
Gonna try to answer your questions:
1. Look away!
2. In most cases the enemy is out of the blast radius, else see 1.
3. Well, there's no distance meter in real life either ~;) But there's a lot of FPS out there without a distance meter! Just practice and you get the hang of it.
4. It is dependent on the map. Some maps are hard to get honor on and some give out honor like it's cheap candy (i.e. Hospital... ~D ~;) )
5. Don't know about this one...
6. Honor gets added to your account after a set of rounds automatically or whenever you leave a server. Make sure you are playing on official or official leased servers though as those are the servers on which you can get honor!
Hope that helps! ~
BTW I didn't even know that about the squad leader giving out the last bit of CEM Sjak, you could've told me that before ~;) ~:joker:
Thanks for the tips. In regards to the "look away" tip, I find that most of the time it's too late to do it. I see the grenade on the ground and a split second later, everything is black. How the heck am I supposed to have time to look away?
And also it seems my own blackout grenades don't work properly.
Here's what happened tonite. I was playing on Pipeline, Assault team. I went to the Exterior Valve room. Every time I try to go in there, there is an enemy camping the stairwell and throwing a blackout grenade, then killing me and anyone else with me.
So I started trying to give him a taste of his own medicine after a few rounds of dying to this.
I opened the door to the room, threw in my own blackout grenade, and it didn't seem to affect the guy camping the stairwell at all. He killed me every time I stepped in the room.
As for your answers to my Honor questions: those are good to know, but I am still wondering what the exact technical parameters are that determine how much Honor you get?
And something else...when playing as Special Forces, it wouldn't let me choose my own weapon mods. Ie: If I choose an M68 Aimpoint on the top, then it won't let me put an Acog Reflex on the front. Why not?

Well especially when you first start, you'll get kild loads of times like that.
And you're always to late when you can actuallly see the flashbang, meaning that the 1 - 2 second delay the nade has when I reaches the floor is far to little time to turn and run.
So when you;re to late, you'll get shot most of the time, you'll have to depend on your teammates to save you when these sort of things happen.
Or sometimes the enemy who threw the nade get's flashed himself in that case, you both have about the same chance of dying.
Here's what happened tonite. I was playing on Pipeline, Assault team. I went to the Exterior Valve room. Every time I try to go in there, there is an enemy camping the stairwell and throwing a blackout grenade, then killing me and anyone else with me.

Did he camp by the stairs or down the stairs ( near the door leading to the pipes themselves ), If he's standing down the stairs you might want to throw a smoke grenade in before rushing in and flashing him.
If he is standing right on the left side of the door ( the door you have to enter to get to the exterior pipe objective ) then you should try opening the door a little ( press ''e'' twice, rapidly ) see if he trows a flash himself - in which case you turn and run back a little, to see if he comes out to check if his flash has worked.
Or try to bounce a flash of the walls, if done correct , he should have the flash in his face - this might even work if he is camping down the stairs.
Remember to never completely open a door when you dont know who might be inside, always open it for about 1/4 and then throw a flash inside.
And something else...when playing as Special Forces, it wouldn't let me choose my own weapon mods. Ie: If I choose an M68 Aimpoint on the top, then it won't let me put an Acog Reflex on the front. Why not?
You need to be at least honor 15 to be a SF soldier, and to use your own weapon mod.
If you are at least honor 15, be sure to select a ''C'' slot, on a SF map.
This will equip you with your own mod, and let you play as a SF soldier.
I have no idea how honor is given, so I can't be of much help on that subject.

Apache, Im sorry, that I didnt let you know. (I read it in the manual) now in 2.5 even teammates close will give a little extra CEM.
Flashbangs works on a limited radius and dont work around corners or down stairs - thats why he didnt get affected. Use a smoke grenade next time.
Apache, Im sorry, that I didnt let you know.
You don´t mean that, do you?~;)
Concerning the weapon mods, not all combinations are possible.
The M68 has a red dot as has the Acog Reflex, but the Acog is mounted lower I think, so you´d have two dots or so, simply makes no sense. You also can´t have an acog reflex + M203 or bipod, i guess it´s because they are attached to the barrel in a fashion that doesn´t allow more attachments there.
Now, I wonder why they dropped the idea of laser pointers and stuff?
They should´ve abandoned the yellow dot and put in laser pointers for the M4.~D
I used to play a lot, stopped for a while, but recently picked it up again. You can find me as Hijii on the Sub-Club server on mountain ambush.
Well if anyones interested, Im now in charge of the AA division of my CS Clan. www.clankv.com to join, we have no requirments.
Big bump..sorry
Just downloaded, playing with my mate (using skype) is really fun. But he plays normally console shooters and well...I just don't play shooters lol. I have call of duty 2 but rarely play it (at one point I got to around average on it lol, but meh). Anyway, I'm so bad I actually lost honour lol, now on 9. My problem is distinguising between ally and enemy. Any tips? (I'm occassionally killing my allies, although very rarely, but thats what I did to lose honour :()
Anyway, nice game so far. Just did medic badge but havn't been online yet to play as a medic. Although tbh not seeing much point in it, usually if you're shot...you're dead, I've only got "injured" once.
Yeh its very hard to tell enemy from ally apart at first. I reccomend using low honor servers and beginners servers (Ones that only allow honor 9-20 for example). There are several of these at MOUT. I play Mountain Ambush, and the clan !3M! opened up a beginners server you should check out once your up to 10 honor again.
Your allies will all have backpacks, the enemies will not, and the enemies usually wear some sort of mask instead of a helmet. You also can tell by the sound of the gun. The Opfor gun sounds way different than your gun. Just be aware that your allies can pick these weapons up and use them.
Dutch_guy
06-24-2006, 11:39
As Hiji said, the enemy wears camouflage and masks in stead of helmets and backpacks.
The enemy always look like terrorists. If that wasn't clear already ~:)
Also, if you know the maps a bit better after playing somewhat longer, always press ''U'' from time to time. To report your position to your allies. This drastically reduces the chance you might shoot your ally in the back or get shot by a friend.
