I was viewing who's online and along with the usual suspects and a few guests, were several "Yahoo! Slurp Spiders".

I think its people who were directed here from a yahoo search, but thats just a guess.

What the heck is that?

A spider is a search-engine program that collects data on the web
and adds it to the database of the search-engine.
On very popular sites their numbers might add to a few hundred spiders.
Google is also using this technique. They usually come in waves that
subside after a few days.
