So, you know, the other day I was playing MTW-VI no patch, as the French in Early. I had invaded a territory where the General happened to be an UM, while I was sending a couple of chinless-wonder sons to train up or die. So I run one of them around the defensesas while I use the other to distract the main of the defenders, and manage to outflank them. I then send my flanking unwanted offspring full speed, in a wedge, and downhill into the UM, and :viking: BLAMO! The whole 60 UM drops dead at once.
The must have not liked eating horsemeat, a French delicacy.
Anyway, I've never actually had a whole unit die at once before, even the cheepies. I was wondering if this is fairly common.

It has never happened to me. They must have had heart attack lol. I've had instant-rout moments though.

Dam! Did you tape the battle for replay?
Perhaps it had something to do with the Prince's personal hygiene (or lack thereof)?

Did he have an especially high valour? I'm sure everyone involved was surprised. That is one heck of a tavern story though.
I haven't had it happen before. Maybe though I've taken out half a unit of peasants in one charge.

I've never seen instant deaths, I have seen JHI helt through a unit in about three seconds through.

I've seen peasants units falling down very quickly, but there was always 2 or 3 survivors. Impressive.

I've cornered units with cavalry and they die so fast it almost looks like they die instantly. Did all 60 men just up and die?

Just a guess - but if their general died, they could suffer an instant loss of valour and/or morale. Would high valour soldiers who have already taken damage become low valour soldiers who are already dead?
I've never met this phenomenon myself, though I've seen battles change in the blink of an eye when a general dies or turns tail.

No. Valour does not add hit points (only V&V's do) but bonuses to attack and defence. You don't see Byzantine armies shrink suddenly when Darth Alexius gets hit by one crossbowbolt too many.
The only thing that strikes me as remotely possible is an error in the push-back calculation. Push back is the only reason for instant death of multiple rows I know.

Yes, I think it was just a glitch. There was a momentary pause, then the whole unit just plopped dead. I didn't save it though... like a fool. I did have fun watching it the first time, though.

Pretty interesting. Never seen that happen, though. I have, however, seen my best general get killed in the first minute of an assault by a barbican shot ~

The pause...
Gah!
Probably it didn't happen in a single second..
it probably took moer, but the animation lagged.

Thats sounds a little more logical/probable/any other "able" word I may have forgotten.

This is kind of a side note question,
but does anyone know how to mod the game, so that during combat instead of the unit status saying something like "worried about so many casualties" it would say "peeing their pants," "needing a change of underware," or maybe "the enemy has them by the balls."
I'm all for accuracy, you know.

hehe, you could try the modding Dojo. I think you'd have better luck there.
Poke around in battle.txt in C:/MTW/Loc/Eng
I had a quick look and it includes some of the stuff you're talking about. I've no idea what effect changing any of it will do, so back the file up.
