View Full Version : Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green
So I got the video game made from the license for the latest Romero movie, Land of the Dead, even though I boycotted the film on the grounds that zombies don't talk, and they don't use automatic firearms.
The game, though, is a different matter. There's no talking zombie, no gun-firing mall walkers and no sympathy. Some of them will swing bludgeons at you, but that's true enough for me. It does lose points on the grounds that zombies don't die unless you damage the brain, and these guys will snuff it if you pump enough lead into their torsos.
However, it gains points back again with an excellent soundtrack, tense single-player missions and simple, yet effective, gore-filled multiplayer gameplay. I find myself shouting at my monitor once in a while when zombie pops out of nowhere, or at the main character after he decides to do something stupid in the main game, which, well, happens enough. Everyone knows that police stations are not good places to be when the zombies come to town.
Looking at the whole picture, I recommend this game, keeping in mind that it's produced by an independent company (Brain Box and Groove Games, who did Pariah for the Xbox), so the game only costs $19.95 American. Hell, I pay more for my zombie movies.
Has anyone else played it?

The zombies didnt talk in the movie. The gas attendant grunted to the others like he was communicating, but in no way did they talk. I'm surprised you didnt mention boycotting Day of the Dead, in which the zombie science experiment had a few words to say.
As for the automatic weapon usage, he only learned how to by accidently pulling the trigger in rage, but if you notice, he was never any good at it except to teach another zombie how to kill a fallen human with one.
The game sounds interesting, however

I rented Day of the Dead before I had a chance to. That was a terrible movie, too, but all the crap I've heard about Day of the Dead and the circumstance which makes it obvious to me that it's a money-grab by Romero just turned me off.
Oh, and zombies don't 'teach'. >:-(

Why not?
If it is caused by a virus then there will be variant viruses.
Also if the virus best way of propagation becomes throught being passed on through generations then in all likelyhood the virus will act to strengthen the host... so if Zombies become capable of sexual reproduction and there is no other way for the virus to spread (no humans around) then the zombie-virus variants will propagate best in stronger hosts... ones that can communicate and learn for instance.
Why not?
Because that's not how it works.

The zombie attack is never explained. The viral explanation is an assumption.

Likelihood, and zombies don't have sex. Most don't even genitals anymore. They just eat flesh, and sometimes brains. If there were no more humans around, the zombies would just rot away until their brains were damaged, and that would be the end of that.
I recently watched Land of The Dead on DVD and before the movie, there was a movie-like trailer promoting this video game. Based on the trailer, that game seems to be totally awesome! The trailer definitely made me wanna play that game.
Whether or not the game is actually as good as the trailer makes it look; on that I am skeptical.

I'm with Neongod on this. With the exception of 28 days later which is still a good film desite the virus bit. Zombies should be UNDEAD, IMHO, and all this virus malarky gets away from that. I reckon they are caused by the souls of the damned reanimating dead bodies myself, and seeking fresh bodies for their fellow damned to occupy. Or possibly the bodies just come back to life, out of control without the souls that once occupied them, who can say?
Not the zombies, who should be limited to saying RAAAAAAAARGH and the use of simple hand tools at best.
I got the game and I thought it was good.
I'm a zombie fanatic so I have been waiting for a game like this.
The game captures the feeling very well IMO and it is bloody and gory just as a zombie game should be.
One major-downside however with the game.
HEADSHOTS HARDLY MATTER !!!!!
Zombies can only be killed if you damage/destroy their brain.
Putting 4 bullets in the chest shouldn't do anything but here it kills them.
With some weapons a headshot means a easy kill but that is only for some weapons and on some zombies.
It is a major flaw IMO.
I hope the other zombie game " City of the Dead" will be better.
