Haha yeah in my last campaign as the Turks, my own troops were my worst enemy. One year all of my generals mysteriously dropped from high loyalty to zero or at maximum 3 shields of loyalty. In order to make the following year's revolution bloodess I had to get rid of (read: disband) all my good generals since they were my only ones that were still loyal. Not fun.

Egypt. It's probably a coincidence, but this faction is ever the thorn in my side in MTW. At least 3 times I've been poised to initiate some grand strategic movement which will shatter the holdings of hostile princes and bring some vast swath of territory into my grasp, and in the very year before all this intricate machinery of conquest is to be set in motion they'll decide to attack me, sinking half my fleet, paralyzing my economy and generally messing everything up. Grr.

The Golden Horde. I hate how they come and put there yellow stain on my nice deep red coloured Steeps. I hate fighting them, even if you win you still take a lot of losses because of all there missile units. I hate the fact that there dead bodies muck up nice river in Kiev, after they get pushed off the bridge. I just don't like the Horde.

All factions. With enough money and resources there´s no difference. It was the same in STW, MTW as in RTW. The Total War series diplomacy is a joke! They should take a field trip to Paradox (EUII), maybee they´ll learn something. :bow:

the French!!! always fighting me, always annoying me, always getting me excommunicated, they'd probably manage all of that if i started as the Russians! i wipe them out as fast as possible without any warning these days.

the Almohads, mainly cos they can field Almohad UM, which has repeatedly embarrassed me by casually walking all over my troops while sneering at my pathetic attempts to kill them.

and...the Pope. because he's there when you don't need him.

VIVA LA FRANCE!!!:charge: :charge: . Everytime I'm the English on NORMAL, they take the British Isle right away. I lost it within 10 turns. I made enough boats to get my troops over to Norway but that was not really how I wanted my game to go. I easily took it over and then Sweden. The Danes almost took over ALL of the HRE and they weren't expecting an attack from behind. I took 3 of their "Country's"(he he I forgot what they're called in this game) and made it back to French lands and my Coveted British Isle. I had great troops from bribing Rebels and Attacked French Lands. Scotland rebelled against the French so It was Easy to take Scotland. Anyway. I took my main army through the British Isles and took it back. I still do not have Ireland(the French have their Biggest Army guarding it). Now I am hoping to start a rebelion there and weaken the army so I can go in for the kill. That is why I hate France.

As the English, I never accept an alliance, never even a ceasefire, and they are always the first to leave the map ;)

I usually make a pact with the HRE, to make it a little easier to destroy the French.

yeah, forgot the mafiosi. they're guaranteed to start a shipping war at the most annoying moment. in some games they start to take over everything east of Italy as well, they've even turned up in Austria in my current English campaign.
i don't know about in your games, but in mine they're usually quite teched up and full of really good heirs as well...

Most hated faction? The Papal States and its Pope that never seems to die ~:handball:
When playing a Catholic faction, I get excommunicated whenever I start conquering the provinces of an attacking faction, and while playing a non-catholic one, that evil wretch keeps calling for crusades against me ~:rolleyes:
But thats when the hordes of assasins that become accumulated near the late game become useful! ~:joker:

And the Almohands are pretty bad too. I've seen them conquering all of Western Europe (including Spain, France and parts of the British Isles (!)) a few times when playing as Poland :hide:

Any AI faction.

They won't make peace with you when they are beaten. You end up having to assassinate, inquisite, or conquer and lose....to wipe them out so they'll leave you the flip alone. I get tired of being attacked at 1-63 odds by someone who can't see the writing on the wall. Especially if I'm playing GA and am not seeking vast amounts of territory.

But, since this is meant to be more specific........HRE......they're the worst, not only because they are hard to kill off, but even when they come back they almost go out of their way to attack you.

Most annoying in my limited experience

The French are the biggest backstabbers,and also in my last campaign as Almo I found the Turks to be damn treacherous gits.
As I play more I think half of my trouble is to do with the Papacy always stirring things,a gunloader but never pulling the trigger

Definetely the Spanish, because of their massed Jinettes, the single most annoying unit in MTW. Probably Aragon as well, because they will always attack Toulouse when I own it. They don't survive for much longer after that, but it always ruins my plans and loses most of my alies.

Only way to beat him is to constantly assasinate him, that will get you unexcommunated...And once you try to conquer him he just keeps on popping up with 4-5 stacks of units from hell.

For me it's probably the Sicilians and the Hungarians.
The sicilians always take Naples from me when I'm the Byzantines, and they also blockade me but its like they don't attack anyone else they're allied with evryone but the always refuse my offers.

Then the Hungarians because they always break our alliance, they'll come in and take greece and Bulgaria and serbia towards the end of the game, also they just always seem to invade at the worst possible times like when I'm up in Poland fightin the Horde, it really sucks.:duel: :duel: The Italians. They litter the area with ships and they even port-invade you if you are not careful.

edit: To deal with the Pope's faction: let them return but always fight, capture and ransom him but let the other Papal stack take any other province ( by just retreating a unit or two into your castle). After the ransom, eliminate the faction once again. Repeat.

In no particular order, I'd have to say my least favorite factions are:

1. Sicilians
2. Turks

6. Italians

7. Oh yeah, in case I forgot....the Sicilians! Just as some MTW players are obsessed with taking out the French, one of my goals in any game is to destroy the Sicilians as soon as possible. I really, REALLY, don't like them! ~;)

recently, my eternal hate for the French faction has been replaced (but probably only temporarily, and even then they've crusaded against me recently) by an intense dislike for the Byzantines and their blasted accursed unkillable Jedi General Katatanks. naturally i'm the Turks, and equally naturally i'm not having any fun despite repeated help from the Eggies.

i am just about to defend Rum from 1300 Byz including four (yes, four!) regiments of Katatanks led by a nine (yes, nine!) star general. doomed, doomed, i hear you cry.

damn this lack of arbalesters. Ghazis are nice but die like flies, give me gatling guns and magnums any day.

Well as someone who plays as the Eggies a lot, I wholeheartedly agree that going up against the Byz isn't a lot of fun. I won't go so far as to say I actually hate them per se, but they're easily one of the most dangerous factions in the game, particularly in the Early period. With their katanks, Trebs, Byz Inf, and VG (not to mention all the icky Jedi generals they get from their princes), the Byzantines are extremely formiddable opponents. Of course, it makes playing them a lot fun for for those same reasons. ~D

maybe the italians.... always starting naval wars they can´t win.... cutting off my trade routes... forcing me to obliterate them....

anyway, that was in my first 3 games.... now i'm playing as the Egyptians, and the italians look like a big threat (they've conquered half central Europe), but, surprisingly so, the mongols have wiped out the Byzantines (with a little help from a certain egyptian big guy whose name i can't remember) hungarians, the poles, the HRE, the Papacy, Sicily, and are now going up against those green &%%!!!

A great moment for me to kick in, sink the mongol navy (they've even managed to set up a good trade network!!!) and take Constantinople, Kazhar, and every other province that may be funding those big big big expensive armies they like so much..... then i plan to sit back and watch as the italians make their stand..... and hopefully win... I don't think i'm gonna be able to trade with the Mongols ever again... I mean.... we were allies.... the guys should get a little mad at me????

Playing with Spain the secret is to attack the Almohads early on.

If you think about it, the main strength the Almohads have at the start is their special Urban Militia while the Spaniards have the Jinetes. Following the rock-paper-siccors scheme of MTW, your special unit can be used to defeat their special unit.

Bribe the Sid, start training Jinetes and infantry (2 peasants per province and minimun taxes to start with) and chace them until you get Algeria, that's the last province without a desert, in that point the size of their army won't allow them any kind of income, they will just sit there acting as a buffer for the Egyptians. Good luck.

my most annoying factions on multiplayer on mtw is the spanish cause they hav lancers and they can swipe really well as they arent slow and they are one of the best cav in the game. also one of the reasons why i dont play mtw online now.

on single player it has to be the almohads cause when i was doing danish or english campaigns the almohads always seemed to hav conquered all of spain and when i had conquered all of france they just seemed to hav felt like they didnt hav enough territory. also i even made a truce with them and then 5 turns later they attack me again. also with there ships being sent to western europe they can attack any part of ur territory which is annoying too. just hate the fact that there urban militia are far more superior to most inf in the game which they are not. also when they attack my territory they always send full scale armies which makes it even more difficult for me as i take my time to create full scale armies, they just seem to come from no where has they seem to hav ships :P

bit like golden horde really too, when they come to europe they hav full scale armies already made. all u hav to do now is fight to the death :P

The problem are not the annoying (original MTW), the problem are the stupid annoying:

1. Sicilians: Those failed merchants, always triying to win in the sea, always invading.
2. The Papacy: Die Pope :shame:

Annoying but great and dangerous:

1. Almohads: When i begin a new play always think "remember the almohads". In the desert they are invincibles.
2. Spanish: Great too
3. Golden Horde: all the players played their greatest and epic battles against these guys.

The unfortunates factions, not annoying men, they try to win but God don't give his bless:

1. France: i don't know why many people hate their, french always die the first.
2. HRE: Die the second
3. Egypt: They grew quickly, but their armies is crushed at the middle of the game, by the strong power of the north, byzs or turks, and by the strong powers from Iberia. I see to the egys grewing to the rank of superpower only one time: i was the danish and was weakening to the factios of Anatolia, in Spain Almohads had problems whit the english.

since I play the Byz. the ones that get me are the Spanish. Crusade after crusade, wiped them out a couple of times and they still come back...bigger pain in the rear than the GH.

Of course in the current campaign I have every faction going after me except for the HRE and the Russians thanks to the Papalcy deciding to attack me. They too are a pain.

The Cathys get strong, heavily-armoured units (both infantry and cavalry) and are therefore easier to control than a lot of Muslim/Orthodox units. Unfortunately, you also must deal with the Pope ex-comming you and Inquisitors trying to burn your generals at the stake. One tip: Do not play as the HRE for you first catholic faction! I recommend the Spanish or English if you're trying a Catholic faction for the first time.

which is why I want to try them, the Knights are faster than Kataphraktoi and have about the same attributes otherwise, the foot knights are better and take less time to train than the Varangian guard and they have a whole slew of medium light cavalry that are good....all the Byz have is the Allagion

I have heard about the HRE being tough and I looked at the units list to make sure....I think I'll listen to you, also I intend to go after the Issies (Islam), Orthies (Orthodox), and Redheads (Rebels) Before I even bother with other Cathos

I'm gonna have to pull some major tricks out of my hat for my empire to get out of this.....in 20 pieces much less 1

heck I'm thinking of giving up, I'm losing most of my balkan land to the inbound crusaders, my land in the Middle east to the incoming Jihads and my land in the Steppes to north to the Novos (I've already lost Naples to a joint Sicilian, Italian, Papacy Invasion)

at least Crete, Cyprus, and the other island you start out with in the early campaign will remain byzland...now I just have to get an heir onto them......and quickly

P.S. I'm starting to sack every province when I leave it the only thing I have naval superiority on is Crete, Cyprus and that other island, and a neat line between them but I got enough in those to (hopefully) fend off the italians/sicilians in order to defend what's left of my shattered empire

P.S.S. after reviewing my forces I have decided to sack everything I own, take every military unit possible and get on those islands, I don't have enough to take on even one of those Crusades/Jihads much less 15 of them and the novo invasion? it's the size of one Jihad/Crusade so I'm sitting there in Constantinople watching some 50,000 troops knocking on the doorstep of my empire and what do I have to defend against them?

usually try and kill the sicilians as italy, as soon as i send an invasion army to sicily i get attacked by the HRE. when i attack any country, iget stabbed in the back!

I agree in these case. I have played only Easy on MTW, MTW-VI and XL Mod, and they are always my worst enemy. When ever I get the chance, I always leave them till last because these annoying Jinets are quite hard to beat.

Specially when you play Muslims (read Almos) and you don't get to beat them at the begining, these Jinets turn to your worst nightmare and cost lots to build units to defeat them.

And, Definitely, the most hated of all... THE DAMN HORDE! Each time it appears on the game makes me tremble because of the bigs amounts of units and costs lots of yours to be stopped.

For the rest I guess I also agree that whenever they get rich and powerful they can be annoying, but not as much as these last two I have mentioned

I love the Jinettes when playing as the Spanish; those guys win entire *wars* for me, not just battles! Surrender to my hordes of Jinettes. Resistance is futile. ~D

Seriously, though, yeah it really sucks playing against them. I've found the best solution seems to be to station archers on my flanks (yeah, risky I know) and pepper the Jins with arrows so they can't get close enough to chuck their javelins at my guys. Then I use 2 (or more) units of my fastest cavalry to pin them down and slaughter them.
