Just a quick question. I'm thinking of installing the XL mod (would be the first time trying a mod for me), and I'm wondering what will happen to the games I currently have saved. Will they disappear, be converted to XL, or still be playable as vanilla games?
~
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure but you can still play the old vanilla maps alongside the new with XL so maybe vanilla still works. I just got the mod and I enjoy it ~D My old games are still there but I havn't tried to play them yet.

Your saved games won't be converted to XL. Of that much I'm sure.
I'm not sure if you'll be able to play your old saved vanilla games with XL. It may let you because you can still play vanilla MTW with XL installed. Give it a go. I don't think it will blow up your computer.
One thing a lot of mods tell you to do is install over a new clean copy of MTW. If you install over your current version of MTW it will probably work, but keep that in mind if you run into any unexplained problems.
But... do yourself a favor and definitely install XL. It's a HUGE improvement on the regular game and it's very stable and bug-free.

I believe all your previous saves are erased. Can't quite remeber when I installed XL but you won't be able to play them anyways. Conflicts with the new map and factions.
If you've got the hard disk space, just install a second version of MTW for the XL mod.
Installing it shouldn't erase the games, but ctrl-x them to your documents folder just in case.
You won't be able to play vanilla saves with XL, the map is changed to include several new provinces and IIRC the savegames crash to desktop. You might want to try VikingHordes thread on the mod over in the mod forums to be sure though.
You won't want to play vanilla after a taste of XL anyway, so the point is moot! ~;) ~;)

Yeah you should definitely install XL into a clean install of MTW:VI. Just reinstall MTW:VI into a new folder and install XL into that folder.

Welcome to the Forums Legorreto!!
Here ya go - (most) all the mods are available here. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=40)
Might want to stick to a couple campaigns on vanilla, until you get familar with the game...
Good luck!

I've got it and I'm really enjoying it. Facing armies with no peasants is a very nice and challenging change. Now I actually have to pay some attention to the enemy numbers before a battle starts because half of it isn't filler.
Got games as the French, Crusaders, and Armenians going. Tried one as the Pope, but now it crashes after a certain year each time I try it. ~ Possibly not the best time to install it, though. I'm having a devil of a time concentrating on upcoming finals. ~;p
Anyway, thanks to everyone. I just saved a copy of my old save files just in case, but probably won't go back to them anyway.

Tried one as the Pope, but now it crashes after a certain year each time I try it.Odd, a couple of people have played as Pope, including myself and hadn't reported a bug like this. You might want to start a new campaign and just speed through the game 'til that date and see if it recurs, VikingHorde would appreciate knowing about it I'm sure.
A small question here about that mod in general...
I don't have enough disk space (in the mean time) to have two copies of MTW: VI, so can I just make a back up of certain folders/archives with the maps so that each time I want to play vanilla I just have to rename a couple of folders?

You can play vanilla with out doing anything as the option is built right into the game, you just have to use the mods new map.
That's exactly what I was asking.
Are there some specific folder/archives that I can backup in order to play vanilla in the vanilla map without making a full backup copy?

You probably could, but I wouldn't bother. I think the new provinces are pretty good choices, and as Lugh predicted, I've had no desire to go back to my previous saves.

I can't remember them all off the top of my head. Try installing the mod into an empty folder and noting down what files are there. IIRC XL changes a fair bit, including various graphics, so you might end up without space even then, if you're that stuck GBs. ~:)
