I have a free trial of 3ds max 8, which is pretty good.~
Just as i start to understand it it runs out. Yes, we have all tried at guessing the 24 digit activation code, but I DONT want to be a fraudster

Then i go onto the online shops

And I was AMAZED at how much it costed.~
It costs £2300 if you get a good deal.~:mecry:
I'm only fourteen and even paint shop pro seems expensive but how much money did it cost people? For instance, the modding 'veterans' and moddelers alike-is this something really big you save for or is it something through work etc.

I want to know the best place to get it, if possible, but also know the type of budget people have to this hobby.

I sent you A Private message as to why these things can be descussed on the Open Forum.

Student versions are far cheaper, as well as second hand or older versions of the software.

How much would the oldest version cost that still works for RTW?

What is the cheapest student deal anyone has seen? I wouldn't mind paying a few hundred for it, but a few thousand is ridiculous for what would be simple hobby software for 99% of us.

I saw a second hand copy of 3ds Max 8 (student version) go for about $300 on E-bay the other day. You can keep a watch out on E-bay, they do pop up now and then but make sure you're getting a legit copy. The script was developed on 3ds Max 5, so at or above that version will work. A google search came up with a $160 student version of 3ds Max 8 (http://www.studica.com/Discreet/). The only catch is it expires in a year, the non-expiring copy is $600. It's an expensive piece of software there's not doubt about it, but if you score around and have some patience you can come across a good deal.
