Any chance we can have the old Christmas skin, with the falling snow, Tosa? It always makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Was there not a problem last year with the snow?

I can't remember any problem. Even if the snow can't be made to work, maybe we could have the red and green, with the festive icons?

Reset your screen refresh rate to 60 MHz...voila! Christmas colours and New Years headaches. :)

Yes, there was. The Javascript used back then was a resourcemonster.

The falling snow was nice, you could also have the snow building up in the corners, like it does on windows.

What was the effect like? I was picturing a simple tiled animated GIF background. Did you have something more complicated?

I also share BKS's longing for that warm fuzzy feeling...
Couldn't we get it just like an additional skin (i.e., non-default one), and whoever wants to use it, they can, if they're not bothered by having their CPU used at 100%... The skin would be made available with the attached caveat, naturally - warning people that it might use up their CPU...

I dont see why people couldnt be given it as an option,

It's kinda interesting that Christmas gets to be associated with snow and all that wintery things whereas Islam uses different calendar. No new skin for you, muslims.

Options, although not always including all possibilities is a good thing - there are 8 different skins to choose from.

By far the fastest way is using the dropdown located at each bottom.

I don't think there need to be explanation. I'm not complaining or anything. It's just my little silly observation about christmas in general and its affiliation with snow. It's true that muslims use different calendar. That calendar has less days than normal (moon) calendar people normally use. Eid[sp] doesn't get celebrated on the same date. That said, they can't associate ramadhan with snow. Not to mention that "ramadhan" is actually the name of one of the months.
The christmas skin is nice but it's too bright for my eyes.

I'll admit, I don't like the skin.
But, what I do appreciate is the administration team's attention to detail, that they'd go out of their way to get in the festive spirit by setting up a Christmas skin for users to select.
Cheers, mate. :san_smiley:

Just to get an idea -- what traditional ornaments do 'other' religions use to decorate homes, streets, public buildings and websites during their most inportant holidays?

The lunar calendar consists of ~355 days as opposed to the ~365 of the solar one. Therefore, any given day of the lunar year matches the solar year ten days "earlier" every next year. There are 12 months in both versions of the calendar; however, lunar months last 29 or 30 days, which is determined by some complex calculations I can't tell from the memory, unlike the 28/29/30/30 days of solar months. Also, the length of a lunar month isn't the same every year, again unlike the solar month. As a result, there's no way to associate a point in or a period of a lunar year with a climate, which is a solar event, because a lunar year virtually travels the entirity of the solar year in approximately 30 solar years, due to the ~10 day difference of length between the two. :san_smiley:
As for the christmas skin, I used it for a few hours and then switched back to the RTW one because it was tiresome for my eyes. But I insist that these santa smilies remain after the season is over. :san_cool:
.
To be honest, I switched back to the RTW skin almost immediatly because it's too bright for my eyes. But it is nice that people went out of their way to create it.
Just one comment: the skin does not show up hyperlinks unless you move the mouse pointer over them. In this thread (link) (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=58127) I twice posted the link to the Samurai Wars forum, but nobody noticed it. Can this be changed or do I just have to make it obvious that there is a link?

No, problem. I'm not much of an artist, but adding skins is no problem (don't like to add 1,000 that no one uses though).

Just to get an idea -- what traditional ornaments do 'other' religions use to decorate homes, streets, public buildings and websites during their most inportant holidays?Well, Jews don't really do anything resembling "decoration" on any holiday except Chanukah, where we light those candelabras in a visible place. You could still make a design out of non-decorative holiday elements, though, like matzah, lettuce, horseradish, and roast cow for Passover (and of course dreidels and latkes would have to be part of any Chanukah design).
Nah, the old one was better. Diffuse, but less Santa and snowman.
Xmass, another skin.
