Is your son a computer hacker? Do you have programs such as 'Comet Cursor' and 'Flash' which you don't remember installing? Does he want an AMD processor? Is your son obsessed with 'Linux'? Then he is a hacker!

Poll
I'm scared of hackers because...
They hack into NASA 5%
They steal things 4%
They are violent sociopaths 4%
They use amphetamines and speed 7%
They help Osama Bin Laden 14%
They're un-American 5%
They smell bad 58%

Odd..

. Lunix is extremely dangerous software, and cannot be removed without destroying part of your hard disk surface.

Software can't destroy hardware, a lot of this page is an overreaction.

Actually you can. You can make software that burns out monitors, rewrites on a hardware spot until it becomes a bad sector etc... but as for this site it is of the Onion blend.

I've burned my motherboard more then once by messing with the booting settings when I first got a computer as a kid. It's definetly possible if you mess witht the main settings somehow.

There were HDD damaging softwarez I had come up with at some website. Giving an irreversible and/or repeatetive command to a hardware must be enough for self-destruciton, I think. And since HDD is a more mechanical hardware compared to other components of a computer, I think it is more vulnerable to such damages.

This was posted before and, yes, it's definitely satirical. Good spam threads live many lives.

I thought all the links in the article were a bit overdone, but when I read betrayed the principles (http://www.whitehouse.gov/history/presidents/bc42.html) I tried clicking on it and that makes the article a whole lot funnier! Or perhaps the whole range of people taking it for a serious article

Not so long ago a virus destroyed my motherboard.

As for the site:

I honestly think it's the father who should receive a spanking.

I know, alot of people over-react to it. It's only when it gets to the ridiculous stuff such as glo-sticks and bright clothes that ou realise it's fake. It's very well done.

ost American families use trusted and responsible Internet Service Providers, such as AOL. These providers have a strict "No Hacking" policy, and take careful measures to ensure that your internet experience is enjoyable, educational and above all legal. If your child is becoming a hacker, one of his first steps will be to request a change to a more hacker friendly provider.

I would advise all parents to refuse this request. One of the reasons your son is interested in switching providers is to get away from AOL's child safety filter. This filter is vital to any parent who wants his son to enjoy the internet without the endangering him through exposure to "adult" content. It is best to stick with the protection AOL provides, rather than using a home-based solution. If your son is becoming a hacker, he will be able to circumvent any home-based measures with surprising ease, using information gleaned from various hacker sites.

Read the comments, it's depressing how many people can't see satire when it's as heavy handed as this.

Bonzi buddy is just a talking character that you can down load onto your computer. It tells jokes. My computer illiterate roomate got one and the worst thing it did to her was annoy her.
I love that one especially.

It's also depressing how many people won't have seen the satire but also beleived what the article says. How many candy-raver-kids are out there grounded because their parents think hackers where dayglo clothes and carry glow sticks and babies dummies?~;p

What I really want to do now is track down as many secondary schools as I can and email the link to the parents association. :bounce:

Check out the FAQ:

What time is it?

It is 9:32.

How do I get back to the expressway?

You want to keep going straight until you hit the stoplight at Maple, and then take a right. Go three blocks until you hit 41st, and then take another right. The on-ramp will be about 300 yards ahead.

How are things going?

Aside from the prostate operation? Pretty good.

Paper or plastic?

Plastic, you tree-hugging hippie.

How do I kill Ganon?

You need to run around the chamber, randomly slashing with the Master Sword until you happen to hit him. At that point, you need to quickly switch to the Bow and Arrow and shoot a Light Arrow at him. Do this five or six times and you will recover the Triforce easily.

What day is it?

It is Tuesday. [update, by jsm] it's Wednesday. [update, by spiralx] it's now Thursday.[update, by dmg] it is now Tuesday again.

And so on ~D
