I've never had this happen before and wanted to know if anyone else had. My Jihad's target was owned by rebels (former Golden horde) and the turn after it arrived they handed it over in peace! ~
Of course I let these rebels walk free for their noble deed but was very surprised.
Can this happen with crusades?
That a province is given up without a fight? Yes, sure it´s possible. Though I´ve never seen rebels giving up a province without a fight. After all, rebels can´t retreat anywhere.

Actually they retreat all the time in the game I'm playing (Polish early). As long as they are adjacent to another rebel province, they seem to retreat if you come with overwhelming force (which a crusade or jihad can have sometimes) just like a faction might.

yeah, you end with 'super-rebel' armies if you keep chasing them out of provinces using huge armies...they all run out of space in the end though, terminally.
i've been helped by the Byzantines (literally, 350 of them joining me on the battlefield) to capture Antioch which had just been taken by 'vanilla' rebels against the Byzantines! they must have been feeling all Christmassy or something. the rebels did turn up with 'Arab/Egyptian' troop types though.

I saw the HRE go rebel (no surprise there) but some of the rebels then combined with more rebels and took out the Polish, completely. Rebels to get fiesty once in awhile and if you attack one rebel province you are at war with all.

I remember after a civil war as Egypt sending a jihad to reclaim Arabia. It was surrounded by other provinces of mine and they handed it over in peace. IIRC they even rejoined my army. ~:)

I've had it happen before. IIRC I was the french, crusading to Pomerania.

Ah, that´s why. My rebels usually are pretty isolated and thus fight to the death.

I had a crusade; launched when it was under muslim control, some rebel took it and handed it over peacefully when I arrived. It has something to do with your army size and influence I think. You sometimes are asked whether you would yield a province or not. Some catholic neighbor of mind (I think it was French) want me to yield Tripoli. Of course I said no. I'm not sure why their crusade wasn't disbanded as "Tripoli is in the hand of catholic." I'm guessing the disband thingy only happens when the province is of excommunicated faction.
I don't play as muslims that often so I never experience it with jihad.
I have had several rebel provinces give up to crusades but never to a jihad.

I *think* if the jihad/crusade province is rebel and more than half moslim/catholic the rebels hand the province over in peace. The only problem that it is not so easy to engineer
I have only seen jihads to do so, but never a crusade - but as has been said apparently it goes both ways.
