PM seeks answers on Saddam's guard (http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,17471090-2,00.html)

Iraqi ambassador Ghanim al Shibli called for Mr Takriti to be "deported to Iraq to face the claims, just like any other (alleged) criminal".

Opposition Leader Kim Beazley called for a royal commission into the matter, branding the department "a turnstile of incompetence". ~:joker:

Mr Takriti was released from detention in February 2002 on a bridging visa and granted a TPV in June this year.

He has been studying a health sciences degree at an Adelaide university and plans to move to Sydney with Dr Pfitzner, whom he met when she was working as a medic in the Woomera detention centre. Dr Pfitzner quit the Liberal Party over its treatment of asylum-seekers, standing unsuccessfully for the Senate on a "No Intolerance" ticket.

Australias Liberal Party is our equivalent to the US Republicans... so this is like a Republican falling in love with a Gitmo detainee or Illegal Alien in the US...
