i jiust read the dutch version after reading the original one
and i think i know who RAB or RAZ (dutch) is
its
the brother of Sirius black
and his name starts with an R and ends with a B
he call him the Dark Lord what indincates to a deatheater
also he says he would be dead when this would be discobered
and R Black was murdered...maybe for destroying the horcruxes
ps the Z is Zwarts in dutch, thats why i thought of him, wich name would have a Z in dutch and B in english the only logic would be a member of the black family
more on this later

You may be right TS. I read an interview with Rowlings conducted by the admins of two major HP fan sites and they too made the same suggestion regarding the identity of RAB. Rowlings, of course, was as evasive as ever. The only time she seems to step in and comment in a definitive way is when she hears some speculation that is too far off base.
is this about book 6? I seen movies 1, 2 and 3, and read books 3 and 5 but 6 I know nothing about (yet) ..~:mecry:
That is peanuts, now who killed Kennedy?

Maybe due to the fact that she (a) has no idea (b) plans on stretching out the series until hell freezes over.

Now that I am sort of an adult, I like Harry Potter a whole lot more now then I ever liked Tolkien as a kid. You have to admit that Harry Potter is great, it is all so funny, smart and cute, irresistable stuff. Rowling does a better job of creating an alternate universe then Tolkien ever did if you ask me, because it is so similar to our own, with all the red tape and everyday's trouble of the small man, I love it ~
My ears started bleeding after reading the last book. It was that bad.
After reading some George Martin stuff it was like going from (using education as an example here) something you'd get top marks at degree for to something a 14 year old would do for middling marks. It was dire. A whole book waiting for something to happen. Then the super-bad-evil-dangerous people are beaten off by some children. Ooooooh terrifying!

It gets to me every time as well, it always keeps you second guessing huh ~;)

Come on, three formulaic but ok in a mediocre sort of way childrens books, and then three "hooray I am now so rich I have escaped all editorial control" literary equivalents of constipation.
I mean, one of them is about CIVIL SERVANTS fer chrissake. How bleedin' magical is that? "Harry Potter and the Sarcastic Memorandum".
I especially hate Harry Potter because for the six months before the last one was published ("Harry Potter and the Invisible Plot" I think it was) I couldn't buy a newspaper in WH Smiths without the checkout staff asking if I wanted to pre-order Harry Potter. EVERY DAY.

The 4th book was awesome! He falls in love for crying out loud! You can't say she isn't taking risks, our hero Harry is actually growing up, and Hermonia is developing titties in the last movie. You may not like it, but millions of kids all over the world love it, and I am really just a big kid so bring them on. I love the leightweight humour, the parralel universe thing with all the common problems like bureaucracy and growing up is obviously directed at adults, it is loaded with innuendo and irony. For the kids of today Rowling is what Roald Dahl was for me, creepy, witty and deliciously sadistic fun, he was also formulaic but who cares!
Go Harry!!!

Your loss, no it is not literature, but it is fun! You are really missing out here, go read one. Now. It will bring a smile on your face, thrust me.

I resisted Harry Potter through the first three books just because it was the "in" thing and Harry was everywhere you looked. Besides, it was a kids book, right? I started changing my thinking when I realized how many of my friends aged 20s-50s had read Harry and love the books, so I decided to give Harry a shot. Fragony described HP best as pure and simple "fun".
Prodigal, the next book is the last. The last chapter of the last book has been written for quite a while now, so there is an end. BTW, I'm a 46 year old Tolkien-is-#1 type person.

I read books 1-4 in a row as English practise, and realised they were way better than I had expected. But because no.5 wasn't out in a long time I kinda stopped following the series. Is book 5 and 6 any good, or has 6 come out yet? I'm kinda clueless about the series atm... I'll probably not read the last books until the series has been completed, I find it extremely annoying to have to wait a long time for the ending of a story when I've started it.
@Fragony: well, they're like apples and oranges and not exactly easy to compare. I personally like both for what they are. Harry Potter is an alternate universe comprehensible for those who live today, Tolkien's middle earth is according to himself an attempt to create a faked religious-mythological early Medieval world that he thought the British lacked. Harry Potter has little message in it and is in no way art but has a very nice and cosy atmosphere, while Tolkien's trilogy is a masterful artwork with deep messages, and above all a dark, epic atmosphere which I've not seen matched by any other artist in any field of art.

Frank Herbert was still the best. The only reason the movie was bad was because it was directed by cinema's Syd Barrett.
Actually, that's not a fair assumption- Syd did good music.

Yeah fair enough, but cute's a turn off for me.

She's really finished the series! Now that I didn't know. I've read a few of them, & I'll admit they're ok as an easy read but they don't really push my buttons.
PS - Shame on you Drisos!

Sums it up nicely. Wasting so many pages on such nonsense is by no means good writing; the first few books were acceptable, but the later ones are entirely too long for their own good, without actually having any content.
Try some Philip Pullman books, I'd say.

I read the first 5 boks, the first three were okay, very reminiscent of what Horowitz had done before and better in Grieselstate. The fourth was too long and didn't really have much plot. I read the fifth in one night, after my last exam , I don't think I remember anything about it ~:)

Interesting theory.
I read all 6 books, and I am waiting for the last one. I just read them for fun. As for serious literature, I turn to Tom Clancy or Agatha Christie or Clive Cussler.
1. Clive Cussler
2. Tom Clancy
3. Agatha Christie
HP is just for fun. And HP will die in the 7th novel.

whhahahahah beirut youre the man...SAUCY KNAVE whaahhahahahahaha
MIHO
look here for my answer
regulus is the brother of sirius black...the socalled killer...i was wondering who it whas after reading the english book...when i got the dutch version i didnt mind reading anything else but how RAB whas pronounced in dutch (im fairly good at english but as names cant be translated they were my greatest stumbling block, half the time i didnt knew who she was refering to)
RAB was RAZ in dutch so i started thinking of Zwarts (black in english) was my first guess...and there was a Regulus so the would prolly be his second name since they where nobility it wasnt strange...

SapihiAre you talking about the light Turkish horsemen in MTW?
By the way, what does the name of the horsemen means in Turkish, Mouzafphaerre?
The Stranger, your theory sucks. ~;p Rowling probably worked that out a long time ago, and decided she won't use them just to keep the oh-so-knowing fans at bay.
Harry Potter IS fun. Com'on guys, have a little fun! The first three books were children's fun, the fourth being a little more adventurous, the fifth one...IMO sucks. It's too dark for a bright background, if you understand--so much trouble and so little joy to make Harry Potter as charming as it was. The sixth one is a little better, though the mystic seems to be falling off for me, for some reason.
Sapihi were Turkish knights, MTW got them a bit wrong. Quite a compliment, and I am not even thanked for making it!
No EU for you young man!

:whip: Spell correctly wise guy! It's Sipâhi. :charge:
It's a Persian word, "man of 'sipah'", where sipah means...I couldn't find out for certain but probably horse.
Two distinct, unrelated type of cavalry were both named Sipâhî:
"Timarlû Sipâhi" were the light cavalry units, trained and commanded by people under whose posessions fiefs were given. That was a feudal system but very unlike that in Europe. These landlords were under absolute control of beuoracratic administration, explicitly responsible to the provincial governers (Beylerbeyi). They had to show up in person with a certain amount of cavalry under their posession, depending on the size and revenue of the land they were given. The fief would be seized back should the Sipâhî fail to fulfil his responsibilities and it wasn't automatically inherited by his descendants.
"Kapukulu Sipâhîsi" was the name given to the six heavy cavalry divisions within the janissary order. They were, like the rest of the janissaries, part of the imperial guard and theoretically under direct command and posession of the emperor, hence no feudal character at all.

I look forword to seeing harry potter die in the last movie. I hope he does, at any rate.
