I've had both commie ham and commie spam for xmas...

Commie ham tried hard, but could never disguise its bourgeoisie capitalist pig origins.

Unpretentious commie spam, on the other hand...proletarian ambrosia!! Nector of the...err, Mods!

:begins to wonder how soon before he must turn in his mod robes for spamming with the patrons:

Ham. My general rule is that I don't eat it on Christmas if it comes out of a metal can.

Crazed RabbitOkay, I just helped our friend Soulforged to a tinfoil hat, and now I'm at a complete loss myself. What on earth is this Christmas ham/spam thing?

Now, now, this is very serious. Many love a good Christmas ham, but I have heard of people that simply love Christmas SPAM!!!. I'm just a simple member of this forum asking a holiday question. No more more less...

As a rule, we don't...but it's holiday time, and I'm just temporarily filling in for Ser Clegane and Solypsist. the regular Moderators, who are away (separately) for the weekend on RL chores. Having one backroom 'play' thread seems harmless enough - tho' the adult Mod's may decide to end the silliness on their return, which decision we'll all respect, of course.

@Dâriûsh:
Ingredients:
Chopped pork shoulder meat with ham meat added.
Salt (for binding, flavour, and firmness)
Water (to help in mixing)
Sugar (for flavour)
Sodium Nitrite (for colour and as a preservative)
from http://www.cusd.claremont.edu/~mrosenbl/spamfacts.html

1 cool thing about Spam: It easily absorbs surrounding flavors; so I use it to make Spam Fried Rice, and Spam-Chipotle Chili.

I was going to roast a duck for xmas, but we'll let the new soldier living in our house choose the entree this year (it may be the last xmas we see him for awhile).

No, Spam is spam!

Actually, it is pork.

Spam just has that...thing...that ham just doesn't quite have.

I can't believe the heretical activities in this thread. Unbelievable. Spam or ham, they are no good. Butter cookies, good sir, are the food of the Gods; the ones they eat instead of ambrosia during festivals.

No, seriously, nobody can ever get bored from eating butter cookies, not even Santa. :san_smiley:

Also, butter cookies do not kill animals and Muslims can eat them, too!

OK folks. It's 0330 GMT; dear SerClegane is airborne as we speak, and our beloved Solypsist should be jetting back to NYC soon (they were both away from their home continents the past few days, on business).

So it's time to tidy up, lest they think we can't take care of ourselves.:san_laugh:

Devastatin Dave: I guess the consensus is: Spam is not half-bad, but tradition prevails among the backroom membership - they mostly prefer once-wild-but-now-domesticated fowl, or actual swine haunch, for their 12-25 meal entree.

Maybe it's a cultural thing.

Among my (almost) 55 years of breathing on earth, have been dozens of December 25th meals eaten out of cans, freeze-dried bags, boxes, and other appurtenances. In the end, it was the company that mattered, not the meal.

Lukewarm Chili-mac, delivered by First Sergeant Joe Killebrew (who manged to expertly avoid booby traps and landmines to bring his boys food); shared in the platoon CP with 19 of my platoon-mates, eating with fingers out of our steelpot helmets - you can't buy that kind of moment. Nobody sang, there was no light from above, there was only (temporary) peace. And brotherhood.

Uh-oh. I got nostalgic again, huh? Sorries.

It's been a fun thread, folks.

But: closed.
