View Full Version : My Son
KukriKhan

Joined the US Army today.
Raised his hand and spoke the "I do solemly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;.. words.
He ships January (reservist until then). Georgia. Infantry. Airborne. Ranger. Buncha money for college. Extra bucks for Airborne & Ranger. He wanted to be an Army Carpenter (he's been doing carpentry & drywall construction for 5 years), but apparently we don't need carpenters right now.
His ASVAB (aptitude) scores would let him be 'computer this', 'specialist that'...but when he was told he couldn't get what he wanted (carpenter), he fell back on his Dad's experience - tho' mine was 33 years, several wars, presidents, and half a dozen uniform changes ago - and demanded Infantry.
I'm, by turns:
Proud
Humbled
Honored, and
Scared
I must admit, my overall feeling is: They better take DAMN good care of him.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Raised his hand and spoke the "I do solemly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;.. words.I am sure he will, seeing what sort of Dad raised him. I would be scared out of my wits, Kukrikhan. Only at night of course, when no one else is looking. What can I say except I wish both of you all the best.
Thanks for letting me vent.
Kukrikhan may vent where Kukrikhan wishes.
The overwhelming sentiment here, I'm sure, is simply one thing - we all hope he comes home safe.

Add: The blank face represents the encounter of positive thoughts, resulted from the fact that it's KukriKhan and his son who are involved, and the not so positive ones for obvious reasons. n + (-n) = 0

Once again someone here ships off to 30th AG, the ******** of the Army. I STILL have nightmares of that place.
If he wants to chat with me via letters, let me know. I can tell him what to look out for in Infantry School and what NOT to do.
Congrats on your son joining the military. I, for one, never forget about our soldiers doing so much for this country.
On a side Note: Not to hijackt the thread, but I was considering joining the army medical corps after college. They will pay for med school and I will recieve the rank of Captain when I get out. Benefits/Pay are good to. I've always wanted to join, somehow, and I think I found a way.

May angels guard his path Kukrikhan.
For all my thoughts on war and armies, I always respect most of the people who do sign up, I hope he gets home from wherever he is posted fine, good luck to him.

Finally, I actually agree with something you say. ~

Soldiership is honorable regardless of who commits it.. Wishing the best for him.

Let us leave talk of combat to the Backroom and focus instead on sending out positive thoughts for people's well being.

Well, I feel that a quotation from a psalm would be in order; unfortunately, the only one I know is the one from "Sheep". So, I wish you and your son the best of kuck. May Athena and Ares keep one eye on him, and may the fates grant him a safe passage through his tour of duty.

I'm sure your son will return safe and sound.
I hope nothing but the best for your son, don't know what to say just hoping for his safe return.
Now that I think of it, I do. It is a brave thing to fight for what you stand for.
