Really funny guy with a lot of demons and bad health. I loved him in the Toy. RIP...

One of my favorite comedians. And sure is an inspiration in helping people fight their own demons. Rest in Peace.
What a funny guy. His grandmother owned brothels and his mother worked there, he carried arond a lot of pain but dealt with it by making it all seem so funny.
Anybody who could light himself on fire then do a comedy routine about it, damn hilarious one at that.
Thanks for making me laugh Richard

Thanks for making me laugh Richard.I was sorry to hear of his demise, I hope he didn't suffer unbearably before he died. Funny as hell as Herman Smith, but I believe he was also a very gentle, amiable man.

He was my second favorite comedian. Only Johnathan Winters rates higher in my book. He could make white jokes that would leave me rolling on the floor. And his stories of how he set himself on fire while basing were truly funny. RIP you crazy nut.

First time I saw him was "Wild Wild West" - you know with James West? But, first time he had something to say was on Johnny (Carson) - and he got away with it, because he could - he had the manner and comebackance that made it seem OK to the folks. Even if it forced them to look at themselves and wonder if their past was a bit hypocrtical.
It is a shame Richard got struck with such a dilipidating desease so early, we missed a decade or more of his witt and genious. He was well past the cutting edge - and he had no fear of reprisal. Many have tried to be like him, but all have sucombed to the forces that be. Richard, rang the bell - and forced all to look first at themselves and then at others to place a blame.
Still, he knew it was the white guys fault, and he never relinquished his original philosophy that at some point the little guy might win .... if he was white.
We'll miss you Richard.
