are there any unlockable factions for MTW 1.0 (not viking invasion); i had heard some rumors that there were (like the papacy???) any help would be appreciated. thanks:san_smiley:

No there are no unlockable factions in MTW, unless you use cheats like the -ian command line.

Right click on your MTW short cut and select properties. You shoud see a line that looks like this F:\Program Files\Total War\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.exe You need to add -ian to the end of this. This will let you change faction and do other things in the campaign game.

using the "-ian" switch is really simple. Here's the detailed instruction:
1. Right-click the MTW shortcut that you're using to launch the game and select its "properties" @ the bottom.
2. In the "object" bit you'll see the full path to the game's .exe file, wrapped in "". Just add the -ian bit to the end. That is, after the last symbol that was there originally (the second "), press space once and then type -ian. Press "apply" -> OK.
3. To see if this works, launch a quick battle and enjoy yuor view :)
