Iranian leader denies Holocaust

Ahmadinejad's remarks echo recent statements
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has courted further controversy by explicitly calling the Nazi Holocaust of European Jewry a "myth".
"They have invented a myth that Jews were massacred and place this above God, religions and the prophets," he said in a live television broadcast.

Mr Ahmadinejad called for Europe, the US or Canada to create a Jewish state there, instead of the Middle East.

Israel swiftly denounced the president's comments.

"We hope these extremist comments by the Iranian president will make the international community open its eyes and abandon any illusions about this regime," Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Mark Regev told AFP news agency.

Mr Ahmadinejad's latest declaration reiterates comments he made last week in which he said he did not accept six million Jews were killed by the Nazis, remarks which were widely condemned.

The president also sparked international outrage in October when he said Israel should be "wiped off the map".

Sounds like the build up to some nastiness to me, but it's a well known fact that I know nowt.

Funny, you think he's trying to out do the former Iraqi minister of information, or he's just practising his stand-up routine?

If only we could just take him to Auschwitz.

Not much to see there, once been there with my school. The gaschambers in auschwitz are reproductions build in 1947.

After statements like this, the UN membership of Iran is a joke.

The guy is berserk; knowing that the US is currently tied up in Iraq and can, right now, only issue warnings and knowing that the UN generally doesn't do much else in such matters probably doesn't really help.

I wonder how long it will be until we invade (if we could).

I think he has been reading a few too many Holocaust deniers recently. Isn't David Irving one of them. As said above, maybe he should visit some of the European memorials and museums to research this. However, I am sure the Internet has it's fare share of knowledge too. But there is no substitute for being face-to-face with it to understand the enormity of this.

Why would he deny the Holocaust, what good would it do him - other than gain the support from the muslim extremists...

I wonder if he actually believes himself.

I'd be surprised if his own people take him seriously, I mean, denying the Holocaust is just like denying Muhammad ever existed, well that's how it would be viewed by the muslim world.

It is always easier to divert the electorate/pleb's attention to some external enemy to buy time -- time in which the plebs aren't focusing on their own problems for which they might hold you -- their government leaders -- responsible.

Denying the Holocaust is easy. He can point to half a dozen authors or more who have posited such an argument, blame them, and retract the statement if needed. Meanwhile, he's painting Israeli Jews as the bad guys and the entire Western establishment as the source of the problem. As in: "If there really was a Holocaust by Germans against Jews, why and by what right did the USA and the UN see fit to give them Middle Eastern land against the wishes of the local inhabitants."

We might find the exercise specious, but it has to play well in Qum, not in Peoria.
