i cant understand why the devs never included MP in the campaign. me and a mate would love to play it but we cant. sure, its not everyones cup of tea but they could have at least included it for those who want it.

I think some people would love to play forever and there are those who can only play for 15 minutes a day. Also not everyone can manage his/her ridiculously huge empire that quickly before he/she is asked to hit the turn button. It's gonna be boring to wait for the battles if players aren't auto-calculating. It's gonna be annoying and too much of a trouble. Name me a turn-base game that includes mp feature. Well, Total War includes mp feature but not on the strat campaign. ~:p

Play-by-mail sounds a lot promising. It just depends how you play it. Go to that forum. I suggested something a while ago, I just don't know if that could work or not.

I agree...But games always have a knack for not including every option.

/me thinks they just quit thinking up stuff after a while.

obviously a 8 player game would take forever but id be happy just playin 2 player and have the AI play the rest. turns could be taken at the same time and then when u hit end turn the game moves on. there's a game called crown on glory which uses that system.

and anyway if some people didnt wan to use it they wouldnt have to. i just feel its a shame that 50% of the game cant be played MP. I was hopin that some modding genius would've found a way to do it by now. and i dont mean PBEM

Actually, Star Trek: Birth of the Federation had a campaign multiplayer. It may get annoying to wait for eachother's turn to end, but like BOTF you could just have a save option so the players can pick up later. It may take a while, but the fun factor of running a multiplayer campaign over a few weeks is well worth it.

Anyway, the battles could be less monotonous too. If you simply let each player run his battles at the same time on the individual computers, there would be virtually no time lost between turns unless one player is playing an epicly huge battle and the other is fighting a sole unit of peasants. If no battle occurs for you in a turn, perhaps the non-battle players can be given the option to watch another player's battle instead of waiting around twiddling their thumbs?

Anyway, it's completely do-able, and I've done it before with BOTF which requires a heck of a lot more micromanaging the RTW.

u could auto calculate most of the battles and just play the battles between the 2 human players. ah well wishful i suppose

yeah , PBEM playing is great, I'd recommend it te everyone who want to play something like a MP campaign.

As a matter of fact, me Simon Appleton and Tincow concluded an imo very succesfull PBEM.

IF any one want to play a PBEM, I - and I'm sure Im not the only one- am interested.

Some shameless advertisement ;)

just had a quick look at that other thread. so u play a set amount of turns, save and send to the other pc. then that player load up and plays on. am i correct so far?

so how does that equate to MP. sounds more like someone else just carrying on my game.

hope im wrong

I'm sorry your not wrong :san_cheesy: , a PBEM is indeed something entirely different than a MP campaign.

Equally fun though I would say :san_tongue:

Also , here is a link to a MP mod, made by Myrddraal was still Beta last time I checked but some guys were trying to set up a game:

Basically every turn based war game I've played strategic or otherwise is multi-player. The reason is that it's really hard to program a computer to play as well as a human with games that have so much flexibility. That's why a lot of the strategic-simulation games like MTW, civilization, etc. let the computer play by different rules (i.e. cheat) to try to balance the game or let the user set ridiculously high difficulty levels (something akin to all enemy units have valor 10 or something) that make the game very unrealistic and also not so fun.

Anyway, when you have a good friend, it's not so bad to wait for them to finish their turn, and the little break you get is probably good for you to!

If you autocalc your battles, no, then not. But imagine everyone played every battle by hand. You´d be - literally - waiting for hours for a single turn to finish, in the singleplayer campaign a turn with some battles lasts some hours with me, mostly, of course, due to the battles.
