Santa brought me this excellent space strategy game, but I'm having some problems. Because there were a decent number of people admitting to owning the game (in the Space Games thread) I decided to ask here.
Every time I play Mission #1, I get to a certain point and the game freezes. The music and sound still plays, but the video stops.
I've looked around the Relic sites and forums, and found nothing that addresses this. I've played some skirmishes, so I don't know what the problem is.
If anyone has experianced this with HW2 and has a solution, I would be most grateful.
Alternatively, if someone has an autosave file that gets me past mission 1, I'd take that too...

Could be a scratch on the disk? Or just slow loading?

It appears to be neither: my disk is brand new and flawless, I've waited around for a while to see if anything happens to no avail.
I'm going to try posting on their forums for help.

Make sure that you have the latest patch. Install it on a fresh installation of HW2
Does the crash occur just after the training exercise?

It's not a crash per say. It freezes during the training mission.
And I have version 1.1 (installed patch).:san_undecided:

Yeah, same thing, it locks up. Hmm...If I recall correctly after the training mission, there is a cut to a movie scene of Tiadan raiders rolling in, that could be your problem(possible corrupted movie file etc..). Personally, I feel your pain, the game is wicked, one of the tops in my book. Try a fresh install and re-patch. If that doesnt help you can look in here for some help:

If not then contact relic and have them re-send you a new copy.

I've made a post (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=82499) in their troubleshooting forum. I'll see what they can do for me.
The problem isn't the cutscene - it freezes in game, when the enemy bombers start attacking the station. :san_undecided:
Strange, never encountered that. I would try updating your video and sound drivers, if you haven't already.
Also, a tip for Homeworld 2 newbies... the enemy's starting force scales in relation to your own. This means the stronger your fleet at the end of a mission, the harder the next one will be. If you are having a very hard time beating a particular mission, reload the previous mission and end it with far fewer forces. It is often easier to scale up your own fleet to meet their size than to start out maxxed and have to face a monster of an enemy.
