View Full Version : My greatest gripe with 1.2 mods...

The random all around HARDCODED (in 1,2) rebels spawning...
They are ruining ANY campaign under the 1.2 patch, no matter how low you keep the taxes, happy your people they ALWAYS show up and since the EB took the "strong Rebels" approach Ive ended up fight rebels for 30 turns and still counting..

Is this REBEL total war? I still cant unerstand how CA could do this...
However its fixable if one erases all the units from rebel_factions txt...
Which Im planning to do just to fight wars and not police riotes...

I hate when they siege several cities in the same turn... when everythings starts to look good, BANG you have to deal with these unrewarding riots. problem is that they often are so easy to beat, but still you just have to do it

I have no problem with the mod itself..its the 1.2 rebelfest that gets on my nevres...
Although the whole economic difficulty is bordering with pure masochism...

I dont play RTW that much..
Is this similar to MTW with rebelions where if you keep taxes nice they wont rebell?
Prehaps like in mtw a spy of some sort is trying to cause rebellions
Or is it more MTW style of if you dont keep yuur generals happy that there is a civil war?

Or possibly is it just Totaly random rebelions for no reason just to make the game last longer as they made the AI so incredibly dumb.

id say the latter answer is coprrect, But as i dont play that often at all, I cant realy coment.
But i can say That if i play Age of empires or empire earth,
I will always try to slow down the opponent Expeshialy if there better than me,
by sending in silly little attacks that wont do much more than destroy a few buildings Just to hinder the opponent and make them spend money on things other than units,
So I guess Rebelions could be the AI's way of evening the odds a little cos it sux

There is an entire thread dedictated to this in the Ludus Magna: many people observed a relation to unrest, but sometimes rebels appear in completely safe, unrest- and spy-free provinces. I think it is random: this might explain why you might not see a singe rebel in five turns and then suddely have five stacks of them.

The apparently random rebels are the brigands and pirates, which appear on your roads and ship routes. Other rebels are neutral towns, who don't seem to do much in my campaigns (but I did not play 1.3 or 1.5 extensivily). A town with low loyalty will throw out your soldiers (usually inflicting some casualties) and join this neutral faction. There are no civil wars, except for the Roman factions in BI. There, Roman generals get a loyalty stat in addition to accumen, influence and command and if it gets to low, they and their army will join the Western or Eastern Roman rebels.

Personally, I like the rebels as they provide a nice opponent to train new family members and keep old governors fit and healthy. They also force you to pay attention to ignore your inner provinces. No historic ruler could afford to leave his cities undefended, if only to supress petty bandits and such. From that point of view, I wouldn't mind the rebels to be more aggressive. However, their number and randomness can be a cause for frustration. Fortunatly, patch 1.3 allowed modders to influence brigand appearence rates IIRC.

I have not played EB enough to form an opinion on the rebels in the mod, but so far I am liking what I see. And they included the Averni! Hurray! Now, time to change history and unity Europe as a Celtic empire.
