View Full Version : Got a few minutes? Easy way to help us...

We could use some help with a task that involves starting up once as each faction and making a list of some problematic buildings and the cities they are in (just those at start). It could be done by a few people actually, but first here is why we need the help...

RTW wasn't really built to have all these different names and descriptions for individual factions. And it wasn't meant to have individual factions have access to some buildings and levels of buildings that other factions don't have (within a culture). So certain problems have arisen, just at the start of the game, that we are going to have to get around with scripts (their wonders never cease!).

These problems are the buildings that you've noticed have (Roman) and incorrect names listed on the icons in your town view (as well as incorrect descriptions) in your faction's cities when the game starts. As an example, let's take that thing that looks like a sewer in Rome at the start of the game. It has (Roman) below the name, and it's a greek name and description too. But if you destroy it in the first turn and rebuild it, you will find that a perfectly good Roman one appears. We can get around this problem then by letting the descr_strat.txt place the buildings that are ok, then we will use the scripts to place the ones that are messing up. Once we get past the placement by descr_strat.txt of buildings, then the problem never occurs again. So as long as we get the scripts to do it before the first turn (but after ds.txt places them), then we are ok.

For each faction, only the buildings that have (Roman) need to be listed in each city for the scripts to place them. Then we will take them out of the buildings placed in descr_strat.txt. So, this is the format we need:

| "InternalCityName" BuildingLevelIdFromExport_descr_building.txt

And an example would be:

| "Sidon" type4

Since you guys don't know the internal names, just use the exact spelling of the building name that is showing and we can fix it (use real spaces, I'll search and replace). We could start out with the Romani. In Rome, we find:

| "Roma" Ochetos Lithinos Kryptos
| "Roma" Amphitheatrvm

And that's it. So, does anyone feel up to it? Feel like knocking out a faction quickly? Let me know by posting it here first so there is no reduplication. I'll try to stick to this board at first too unless no one is willing. By the way, this isn't as much of a problem with some factions, but is a huge one with others.

(By the way - Makedonia and Baktria have absolutely no problems with this issue!)

im doing it right now.

edit: btw, do you care about wips and "should not be visible" and such, or only buildings with the "(Roman)" appendix? what about buildings that similarly have "(Greek)" after them?

Carthage:

| "Bocchoris" Tavern (TRANSLATE ME PLEASE!) (Roman)
| "Kart-Hadast" W.I.P. (Roman)
| "Kart-Hadast" W.I.P. (Roman)
| "Kart-Hadast" Mega Asklepieion (Roman)
| "Kart-Hadast" Should not be visible (Roman)
| "Kart-Hadast" Great Estate (TRANSLATE ME PLEASE!) (Roman)
| "Kart-Hadast" Circvs Simplex (Greek)
| "Mastia" Tavern (TRANSLATE ME PLEASE!) (Roman)

There were two "W.I.P." in Carthage, with an identical picture (an aquaduct, I think) and description.

No rebel cities need to be done. We aren't designing them to be playable. It never causes CTD problems, just visual issues.

Thanks guys! I'll get these in to the scripters and we will see if we can get this ridiculous issue taken care of! :balloon2: :balloon2: :balloon2:

Hmmm. Didn't think about that. crap. Well, that is right though. I guess we will have to do it for them too. ~:mecry: Not as big a rush on that though.

bit of a problem.. i was looking at the rebel cities and most of the buildings have (Barbarian) appended. i looked at ictis, since i knew what it's situation was.. all buildings have (Barbarian) except the tavern which doesn't have any appended type. but when i captured this city with the casse, the tavern had the (Roman) appendix.. what's goign on? not sure how to proceed with the hunt...

edit: btw, no buildings in ictis had the (Barbarian) when i captured it in my casse campaign

If the label matches your culture, it's not displayed. So Casse won't see any Barbarian labels, only Roman, Carthaginian, etc.

If the label matches your culture, it's not displayed. So Casse won't see any Barbarian labels, only Roman, Carthaginian, etc.right, but the question is what to do with rebel cities? ictis starts as rebel, and when i capture it with casse, it contains a tavern that shows up as "Tavern (TRANSLATE ME PLEASE!) (Roman)".

when i started a campaign as the eleutheroi to find these instances for rebel cities, many of the rebel buildings had the (Barbarian) tag. i checked ictis, and all of it's buildings had the (Barbarian) tag, except the tavern. i'm guessing the rebel faction uses roman cultre? but, how should i proceed in finding problematic buildings in these rebel cities. should i note any building that doesn't have a (Barbarian, (Eastern), etc, tag? are those the buildings that will show up with the wrong name when a player captures them from the rebels?

I guess the rebel ones are probably something I should do BigJohn. I know whether something has the right culture by glancing at it - and if they all show the culture in parentheses, then it's going to be hard for someone else to put the problem ones together I suppose.

Rebel buildings should have culture according to the town they're in. A barbarian town should display the (Barbarian) label if you conquer it as a non-barbarian.
