I have looked throughout the Org forums for some kind of explanation on Trade Rights.
Has anybody done an analysis of trade rights? Does anybody have a firm understanding of what benefits exactly are conferred when trade rights are granted between two factions? I've always been curious about this.
And, to my knowledge, we at EB have done nothing with the currently existing trade rights setup, correct? I assume because of hardcoding...?
Thanks all.

AFAICT trade rights opens trade relations between your cities and the other faction's. (In vanilla) I turned my flow from - to + simply walking my diplomat along the map and having trade rights arranged with everyone on foot. Btw, all diplomatic actions are hardcoded AFAIK.

I'm wondering if opening trade rights is a hard number cash benefit or a percentage of something....?

They basically done it like in history.
I don't think it's like percentages. Trade rights are purely hard cash. Look in the game, no percentages. Look at the settlement details.
Might be wrong, but I'm kinda sure that I'm right.

Trade rights give +50% sea exports, +10% sea imports, and +300% (or +200%?) land trade. (source (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=45315)) It is, of course, entirely hardcoded in all respects, although possibly scripts can grant or remove it.

So, trade rights does nothing unless you:
(1) have a port with a route that goes to a faction you have rights with.
(2) Share a border with a faction.
Is this right?
So I get nothing if I get trade rights with Yuezhi and I am Iberia? Or, worse, I get nothing if I am Iberia and I get trade rights with either of the gallic factions?
Well, yes, but your port's route is automatically set for the ones that give the most profit (within a certain range...the details of which, I don't know). After bonus is applied, the route may be altered. Trade rights with the Gallic factions if you are Iberia should be effective..

So what is the deal with the land route? If I am Iberia, then I have to share a broder with Arverni or Aedui, right? What if there is another faction or a rebel province between us? Then I get squat?

Land trade only applies between adjecent provinces, so yes.
To trade with either gallic faction, you'll either need a neighbouring province, or both of you must have a port not too far away from eachother.
