I have just started playing as Romans, perhaps to easy I don’t know half the fun are the surprises I like the different choices of control you have over each area a imaginative and innovative way to enhance the game play, something that CA should look at in a serious manner, however I have no confidence that they will.

For me personally the speeds are still to fast, battles tend to be hectic and quick this may be historically correct but is not in my opinion conducive to good game play I want to savour the fight enjoy the positioning of my troops and have time to make decisions perhaps an unrealistic request in a battle but why not.

Playing BI I realised that the movement of horses though fast was not unrealistic and in fact could be put to good use but only when balanced with the abilities of the infantry perhaps what is missing is quick orders to your infantry units to form defensive or offensive stances this I suspect is beyond the control of the EB to perform, but in the future it should be seriously looked at by CA the ability to form a shield wall in BI was an interesting ability balanced in game play it could be quite effective.

In the end I want my Hastati to hold the line to withdraw in good order and my Principes to step in like a wall and butcher the opposition if all else fails the Triarii to hold the retreat this is not reflected in any game play, you cannot do this in RTW or in EB you would invite disaster until this can be reflected in the game play something is lacking in RTW

I and I suspect most people tend to use these units like Generic units of other cultures that is how the game plays it should not be that way, it could be much more, EB from my limited experience so far is trying to achieve this through the back door CA should open the front door and let slip the dogs of war.

Edit: enjoying the game so far but I think elephants are really overpowered and have no sense of polite behaviour in company.

I think I agree more or less with everything modestus says except the elephant part... I just brushed up against the Karthadast elephants and they are pathetic... 2 volleys of pila and a charge by 2 hastati units and they all turn white after losing only one elephant. They may be powerful, but their pathetic morale more than makes up for it.
