So he felt guilty for living a life of luxury while people live and die in poverty in Iraq...a nice sentiment. But actually going there? What was he thinking?
If he wanted to see poor people living miserable lives exposed to constant danger, he could have picked a dozen other countries who are worse off then Iraq. Why Iraq? He isn't Iraqi- his parents were, he's American. He doesn't speak a word of Arabic, probably isn't even a muslim. He knows nothing about the local culture. It's a miracle he survived longer then ten minutes. His parents being originally form Iraq means shit- why would the Iraqi's look differently upon him then on any other American?
All this makes him a good hearted, yet blissfully ignorant fool. Hopefully he has learned his lesson.

It wasn't real bright going there with minimal preparation, but kudos to the kid for wanting to find out what Iraq is really like.

Why Iraq? As an American citizen he has the right to personally see what his country is doing in Iraq.

he had the right but not the brains, he seemed to have no idea of what kind of place this was, it would be just as likely to have him taken hostage as return home safe.

I still do not see the problem with someone trying to find the truth and seeing things for themselves. The only issue is between him and his parents and that he ditched school.

You, for the second time, tell my ideas in words DevDave. I agree with boy's courage and willing to help..

Well, he ditched school to go to a warzone.... Hmm...
Wow. I would have ditched school to go to Amsterdam (now where's that weed smiley?)

Has bigger 'nads then sense. Should make a decent warzone reporter. Only word of advice I have is that he should have kids early as his life expectancy will be short...

Why didn't his dad just tell him what it was like on his visit instead of helping him with the visa .
Perhaps the father should have taken a video camera to show his son the sights , then again daddy didn't want to look too much like a tourist in Iraq I suppose , or even worse a journalist:laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4:

Alexanderofmacedon, in the previous closed thread, I had already mentioned about my support to the kid -though it can be counted a neutrality towards his attitude..

I'm Hungary for Turkey
Tell your friend that if he had invested every single penny he spent for that shirt on his own sense of humor, he'd level up higher than those shirt manufacturers.
I'm not even abroad but already bored (not annoyed) with this joke. Is it really so funny -some cultural difference maybe I'm not getting the idea of over-repeating a joke whatever it is about?

A joke is funny maybe the first 3 times, when you have heard it a 3 hundred times it becomes a tad boring.

After re-reading it I thought that's what he meant...
The last line in his statement confused me though...

Anybody read his essay? He's quite the pro-war partisan. Apparently he thinks Saddam Hussein was bad for Iraq and reconstruction is good :dizzy2:. For a 16 year old his plan was quite effective, he made it there. A little bit more thought and foresight (and a couple of years) will help him immensely.

I've heard "Turkey", "Roasted Turkey", "We have Turkey for dinner" jokes more than 300 times.
I have to repeat, I'm not annoyed with it, I'm only amazed at how long can a joke stand though it is repeated so much..
I love American sense of humor, SFTS wants to prove wrong though..

So he is certainly a lucky young man then , he was able to squeeze in his visit just before he would have recieved the dissapointing news about the so called reconstruction .

Oh well , a new year and the same old pathetic Dave .
Or he could go to Germany, Japan, or Puerto Rico, etc.
Really Vlad , and how many countries who have invaded those nations recently have just said that very large amounts of the reconstruction funds have been wasted or used for other purposes , and that there will be no further funding for reconstruction .

:laugh4: Are you saying that government spends money wastefully. Quick, stop the presses, we have a hot one! :laugh4: Are you also saying that other countries will no longer provide money for reconstruction? Well I imagine that they'd have to make good with their promised money to reconstruct Afghanistan first. Invaded those nations(?) recently? None of those countries I listed were invaded recently.

Oh , so they have nothing to do with a citizen of a country visiting Iraq because (amongst other things) he is enthusiastic about the reconstruction , a week before his government announces that it has screwed up on the reconstruction and is not financing any more , do they ?
So the point to your post was ?????
Errr.... no point at all , I understand now:no:
