What was the first console you ever owned, and why did you like (or hate) it?
The first thing I had was a Sega Genesis, liked it very much, because cartridges were generally cheap.

i had one of those silly little orange things with Pong and some other games on it,
But my 1st real console has to be the
Atari 2600.
Loved it.
brought the arcade to my home.
Millipeed.
moon patroll.
space invaders
asteroids.
All classics.
Cant bad-mouth the 2600.
Then i got a NES.
Kicked ass.
MANY GREAT Games,
And the atari 2600 was religated to a box.
Then the SNES (called the Super fanicom some places.)
This lil console changed the face of the world.
With games like.
Street fighter 2.
super Punchout.
FINAL FANTASY!
Also saw the release of populous the 1st god like rts
and super mario world / all stars.
Cant shake a stick at that.
Then i got a playstation 1 Cos the N64 Sucked something serious.
Resident evil, (ground breaking)
bushido blade
Final fantasy
and Ridge racer.
Formed the next gen console standard.
I then bought a Ps2.
GTA 3 - SA Great.
And i could still play my fave ps1 games
Il probably get one of those new fangled x-box 360 jobbys next.
But in all honesty.
I can play all the games from all the consoles i just mentioned, on my pc. Using a playstation controller.
So dont really need a console these days.
But its something to do when my pc's are being defraged exetera for maintanace,
The NES. Never could beat any of the games though. :dizzy2:
My first encounter with consoles was my cousins 2600 but the first I owned was a NES.
Playing games was such a simple affair back in those days. How could I not love it.

The First console we ever had was my dad's Atari 7800 that he bought during the seventies. Then when I was about 3 we got an NES, I was sooo jacked about it, and my older brother nearly had fainted from excitement.
Atari 2600, then NES, then PC. Never been back to console since.

Good old Genesis for me. I remember it coming with Sonic 2. I was addicted to that game, needless to say.:2thumbsup:

Gah!!! Where is Intellivision on the list!? That was my first console and it blew anything Atari had at the time out of the water. It had better graphics than Atari, it had some games with speech(!), and its controller had a numeric keypad which allowed for much more versatility in games than the Ataris.

Oopsie, um well, I know I must have missed some, I'm gonna see if I can change it.
The one, the only, the NES.
Edit: Decided it was too far off topic. Sorry 'bout that.
I had mario vs donkey-kong on those handheld that do *bleep* before anyone had ever heard of nintendo, god I am hardcore. Not really a console but I kicked of with the MSX2.
Atari 2600, then NES, then PC. Never been back to console since.
Your loss the SNES and all console since have had good games.

S.N.E.S. was the first and only console I have (or need).

First console was the supernintendo.
After that came the N64 - with which I've wasted countless Hours upon.
:balloon2:
I had a Magnavox Odyssey 1 way back when. It was pretty much just Pong.
It was the playstation. However, I played some brilliant Amiga games before that.

Nintendo 64. The games on that system were so good that I actually quit playing videogames for a year or so because I was convinced nothing would ever be able to top it.

I had the Atari Consoles, then a C64, then an Amiga 500, since then a PC.
I did have a Nintendo Playstation for a few weeks. A friend and me used to play Street Fighter on it. He looked a bit like Blanka and impersonated him well while I took the Indian Guy who could stretch and teleport. I remember that we laughed for hours with tears running down our cheecks while playing. :laugh4:
Whoah, it still hurts my sides to think back.

First game I ever played was on my cousin's SNES, first console I ever owned was the Sega Megadrive. Sonic 2 and Vectorman rocked, still go back to them every few months.
After which I got an N64 with GoldenEye (in my opinion one of the finest FPS games on any system - console or PC). Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is less a game and more an adventure (got it again off Ebay before Christmas and am currently playing it, last time I played it I had borrowed it off the same cousin that introduced me to gaming), I also have the sequal, Majora's Mask which is almost as good. Not to mention Perfect Dark (only thing keeping it from topping GoldenEye in my books is that you are not James Bond), and Lylat Wars (a great flying shooter, sequel to StarWing on the SNES).
I then got a Sony Playstation and have Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX on it as well as MetalGear Solid (the best in the series in my opinion).
Finally I got the Nintendo GameCube. Super Smash Brothers Melee is an excellent beat-em-up. Pikmin is a great RTS and is extremely different from any other RTS on the market, one of the best around. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2 - Rogue Leader is a brilliant Star Wars game, one of the best if not the best Star wars games out there. I love defending Hoth, seeing the hundreds of troops fighting it out below as I fly past them and keeping the hundreds of TIE fighters off the capital ships during the battle of Endor.

Atari 2600, and loved every minute of it. Next came a C64 which used 5 1/2 inch floppy disks and had no hard drive, which might as well be called a console, because it couldn't do squat as a computer (Who else remembers Load "*",8,1?). It had some awesome games at the time, though, and I'd like to browse the net and find some of them that will run on my current P.C.
I've never gone back to consoles since. I always preferred the more in-depth strategy or flight simulator-type games that were only available on the PC until very recently.

Our Atari 2600 had a keypad which plugged into the 2nd joystick port. It had a removable soft cover that went over the buttons so that their function labels could be modified for different games. It only worked with one game that we had. It was kind of a first person spaceship flying game, and the touchpad was used to select different views like navigation screens and the actual flying/combat screen. I wish I could remember what that game was called, because I loved it back when I was about 10.

Atari 2600
The games are mostly crap by today's standards in gameplay, but back then, they were to die for. I also had a Coleco Vision, and I still have fond memories (read: nightmares) of that damn chessboard room in Dragons Lair >_<

FLOPY DISK??? hell My C64 had a Tape drive,
Well it didnt really have that Either, I had to Buy it seperate.
What my c 64 came with was A book.
Youd sit there typing out Lines of code for literaly hours.
cos the description in the book said that the program you would create with it was "FUN"
Well after about 4 hours of typing.
And Re checking all the text for mistake's Youd hit enter.
And the only thing all that Text you wrote did was make a damn turtle walk on the screen and draw a line behind him
GAH!!
So i bought a tape deck and some games...
youd stick a 60 min tape in the thing.
Watch the screen turn all sorts of blotchy colours for a while, Then decide il go make a coffe.
Guaranted when I got back Would be a message saying.
"Data error please rewind tape and press any key"
GAAAA!!!!!
Well Eventualy I got some games to work.
And i loved the c64 really i did,
It had DIZZY "Cant beat Dizzy for a game about an egg"
It had Masses of text based rpg's
It also had a seemingly Endless suply of Platformers.
Some 2 player...
Although geting 2 controllers to work on the c64 at the same time for 2 player's Ended up being near to if not totaly impossible.
Ahh They dont make em Like they used to
"I THANK MY LUCKY STARS!"
First one was Sega master system.
Man that was sweet.
Best game I had was the Wonder boy series.
Then I got Sega mega drive and that was even more sweet.
But then we traded it for the SNES and then PC.
Still SNES was the best.
This makes me feel old. My first console was the NES. I still buy games for it.

I wish I was, now. I live in Canada, and I'd break a leg for a Game Genie. I do have the Super Game Boy cartridge for the SNES, though.
Bragging aside, though, thank you kindly for the offer.
First console? The NES.
I'd been playing games on the good ole CoCo long before that.

Color Computer. It was a line of TRS-80 computers put out by Tandy.

I have been playing computer games since I was 10 years old (20+ years ago) but despite that fact my first console is the XBox 360...
I had a BBC Master as my first computer (Elite being the main game there) and then by the age of 12 we had our first PC (286, 10MHz, 64K RAM, CGA graphics) and I never looked back from that point.
I picked up the 360 because I have friends into console gaming and basically I have the spare cash to experiment a little. Plus there is a sea-change in PC gaming coming I think...

Exactly. What are we to do who started gaming on the computer and never looked back (or forward, sideways)?

Give your head a shake.
My first console was ColecoVision. I sure loved that thing. Too bad they aren't still a player today. "Mouse Trap" = ultimate version of PacMan. Although "Lady Bug" was quite a good PacMan offshoot as well.

My first console was the NES. Had to share it with my brother. After that a Gameboy wich my parents made me share with my brother as well (curse him)
However all was forgiven later on when he bought a SNES and let me play on it sometimes :laugh4:
Much later he bought a Playstation 2 and again later an Xbox, but by that time I had moved out and couldn't be bothered with consoles anymore. Never have been really fascinated with consoles anyway, I prefer mouse and keyboard over a retarded 8-button controller.
NES was cool, though.

The only 8-button controller I can think of is the SNES. Are you...badmouthing the SNES?

I think I clicked the wrong one. I was a little distracted. Anyway, I had one of the Atari's, I suppose. Well, my parents had it. But during a move the van had its top ripped off in a rain-storm. And all the games were lost. Personally, my first console was a used N64 right before the PS2 came out. Yup, I was late. But I played war games (table tops) when I was little.
