One thing CA/DT/EA/Whomever seems to have learned this time around: don't hype features that aren't in yet! What angered a lot of people when Shogun was first coming out, was that the companies kept hyping cool features, and then removing those features from the game. (Can you say "Father Visitor?" I knew you could!) They lost a lot of credibility, and many gamers were let down.

For the expansion, they're releasing info about units and stuff when those features are working. Nobody heard about ThunderBombers until fairly recently, for example. This means we fans can trust the interviews a little better. False hype can really damage a company's reputation, and it (hopefully) looks like these guys have learned about "truth" in advertising (as much as there ever is). Domo arigato, gozaimasu!

Now, let's hope they give it a decent manual...

Ah, you forget that EA take care of the manual side of things, and there is money to be made in Strategy Guides....

A decent manual! I've heard of such things. Other games have them right? They explain stuff instead of confusing you.

I agree with johnmcd, why have a good game manual when they can squeeze another $15-$20
out of people for a stategy guide.

then they might as well start charging us for the upcoming patches soon to follow on the release of Warlords

The would lose the support of tons of people! Charging for patches is indeed evil.

while it wouldnt make EA/CA any friends, all they would have to do is re-write the already extant paragraph about us the purchaser accepting the game as-is when we buy it, with a little something about "additional/optional add-ons would be downloadable for a small fee."
this would make patches which fix things, say, the Hojo Horde problem, completely optional since it doesnt interfere with gameplay-ie. you can still play the game full on through without the patch. but if you want to get rid of the Hojo Horde prob, then EA will let you iron that wrinkle for $15.00
totally evil. but there are people who would do this. it already exists, for example, in the form of home ownership (if you don't own a house then you prob won;t get my little reference)

OK, Soly: you've confused enough newbies for today. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

And should someone have taken this conversation seriously up to this point, I'll just let you know that *nobody* charges money for patches; it's the worst PR you can have, it's against the law (in the case of bug-fixing patches at the very least) and it's not even economically feasible, nobody would buy them. Clear on that? OK.

I didn't get your comment about home ownership, but perhaps I wasn't supposed to. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif
