That battle really brought my PC to the edge - even with all details as low as possible.
It was still kinda funny, despite the lagging.
(my general didn`t even get a star for that)

good effort, take it the general and heavy horse did most of the work there then?

That is... awesome. Really! I now wish my PC could handle huge settings. Good work! And yes I hate it how BI generals almost never gain stars.

If the gain a few stars they will gain more stars more quickly, I think.
At least it happened in my Saxon campaign. And I think they only get them in field battles.

Wow. I didn't know they made a German version of this game.

'Schlachtresultate' sounds so much better than 'battle results'...

Nearly every game gets localized...no big deal.

Anyways, the Cav including the general did roughly half the killing, the rest was done be infantry. My first line of defense was pushed back from the tree in the middle of the picture all the way to the flag, killing huns all the time.
I really like how pushing works now.

Can I ask you one thing, how did you get them to assault?? It's really too foolish to assault with a HA army, what an A.I.

Very nice picture of a great battle. But this shows how weak CA made the Huns. May I ask what setting you use? Very Hard?

Assaults aren't Huns playgames, that's all about it. In an open field, that Roman army could have been mascarced if the Huns were played right.

Very impressive. Battle odds 2:1 in favour of the AI, I presume?

I understand what you are saying. But the reality of history shows the Huns were well able to assault. When Attila campaigned the Balkans, Priscus and Jordanes tell of 'no less than 70 towns and cities were destroyed.'
I say CA made Huns weak and it is so. Again in reality, they had many subject peoples. Sarmatian, Ostrogoth, Skyrian, Gepid, Alan, Rugian, Thuringian, Herulian, Burgundian, Frank, Attila commanded more than Hunnic horse archers. Since long before, at the time of Rua, the Huns fielded strong infantry contingents.
So why no Gothic spears or Bosphoran Infantry and such? In BI we see such units as Runaway Slave Spears, Steppe Spears and Heavy Spears and Steppe Swords. These are some of the weakest infantry units and quick to rout. As you say, HA and cav are not good to seige and this battle shows how easy they are beaten in streets. The HA are confined and find it hard to skirmish, they become easy kills. It is just a pity that Huns are not a real threat. Once more the Romans are very strong, I have not played a single campaign where they have any real threat (other than me) and they crush rebellion with ease.
But still, that battle must have been great fun.

You could always get Mercenaries or even feed cities out. The one thing I didn't like in BI is that morale was too lowered to some barbaric troops that they aren't worth it.

I don´t think that army contained many heavy spears or the results would have looked different. Steppe heavy spearmen are able troops and should not have problems with limitanei. The problem is that the hun horde does not have any. It consists mostly of cav and horde spearmen which are practically peasants. That´s why the huns have such problems with assaults.

I find the Hunnic army deadly in open battles.. So that fills the gap of assaults I think. I mean, the same goes for Saissaidn Empire, their troops against ERE ones in VH/VH are just useless. Put 4 levy spearmen vs 1 first cohort and count to 7, and you are routing.. Lol! (But yes, they are some kind of deadly in open battles)

Judging by the size of that Hun army it was a horde. By the time the Huns moved into Roman land it was not limited to horde spears which are peasants, I agree. CA made a big deal of Hunnic threat but they arrive as a weak horde. A real threat would be nicer is all I meant with units to provide this threat.

Iv had very similar battles, but Iv always had casualities down to the last man (Having units of 4-10 at max around), But then again I didnt have that much calvary.

Quoted for truth! :D

Tolle Schlacht! Sehr gute Arbeit.

I may be wrong, but I got the impression that you can earn good traits and stars more easy when playing the Sassanids than the Roman fractions. In my experience Barbarian generals have to do the hardest work for any good gift.

I was actually attacted by 4(!) hordes armies while defending a city with wooden wall.
My tactic was to close off all siades of the square and I had 6 units of archers in the centre, 2 generals, 1 light cav, rest were light and heavy cohortes. The actually breached the walls on 4 sides, I had about 2 units per opening vs the square and one in reserve to breachs gaps.

I was actually going to see how many I was going to take in my grave with me but in the end I won and only lost 1 general.
What suprised me was the fact that I actually didnt kill so many of the foe's, about 4600 and that yet they still all armies fled the fight..

was a wonderful fight though.... :-)

didnt get a star for the/this heroic victory....
