View Full Version : Chariot javelins?

Some time ago someone in Colosseum mentioned in passing how he'd gone about converting the Brit Light Chariots and their BI equivalents from ahistorical archers to rather more historical javelin-throwers, and kindly also explained how to go about it. Alas, I didn't think much more of it at the time, and it rather seems like the thread has gone the way of the Dodo by now.
I'm mainly curious about what steps are necessary to swap the bow-toting crew to javelin-toting ones, and on the side how you edit the number of crew members if needed. Thanks in advance.

1) Use the xidx to extract all animations and skeletons
2) Copy fs_chariot_archer, rename the new one fs_chariot_javelin
3) use xidx to hack into/edit the new skeleton, and replace its standing ready animation, pulling the bow and shooting with those of fs_javelinman's equivalents
4) add fs_chariot_javelin to list.txt
5) repack all animations and skeletons
6) make the appropriate entries in EDU.txt and DMB.txt
done.

Is there not a chariot javelin in BI?

A valid point.

Huh, turns out there's an fs_chariot_javelinman skeleton in vanilla RTW too. Lessee what happens if you swap that into the appropriate DMB location...

Well, with the appropriate edits to the EDU it works perfectly well as far as animations go. But it looks kinds silly when the archers throw magic javelins that only become visible when they leave their hands... wonder if I should just copy-paste the Scotti charioteer models (and all the gazillion associated graphics files - groan) from BI ?
