View Full Version : Korinthoi Hoplitai(sp) - Underpowered?
I can't help but notice that although Corinthian hoplites wear a suit of chainmail, greaves, helmet and have a Hoplon shield, they have a total defence of only 22, whereas Iphrikate(sp) and Misthophoroi(sp) Hoplites have each 23 defence and 24 defence, i'm not sure which is which, but both of them aren't as well armoured as the Corinthian hoplite...
These hoplites wear a helmet, hardened cuirass(sp) armour, no greaves and a light-weight shield... Yet they have more defence than Korinthian hoplites who are wearing chainmail and greaves? Is this intentional or a mistake?

I thought armour and sheild were seperate fields to defence and that defence was defencive skill.
But the overall armour should be equal for the two... Misthoph ad Iphrikate hoplites have a light shield and light cuirass armour, Corinthian hoplites have the old hoplon shield, a suit of chainmail and greaves... To me that would mean that Corinthian hoplites would have just as much if not MORE overall defence than the other two types...
Plus if i remember correctly without going into the game Iphrikate and Misthophoroi hoplites actually have more armour (not overall, the armour rating) than Corinthian hoplites, which absolutely cannot be right since i'm fairly certain that a suit of chain mail offers better protection that leather cuirass...

It's linthorax armor btw.
Anyway, I'll look into it.
Humm, there is a skin problem, they have the late liby-phon infantry skin..I'll report this to the powers that be.
What's the difference between linthorax and hardened cuirass? And is linthorax better in terms of what it can withstand than a chainmail shirt?
And i knew something must be wrong with their skin... The first thing i thought when i saw them on the battlefield was that they looked Cartheginan-ey... :sweatdrop:

No, linthorax is quilted linen or hardened linen....nowhere as tough as a good chainmail I would think. But of course it is much lighter.
I see... But the Corinthian unit skin is wrong... I think they should be wearing this linthorax you speak of, although their description doesn't say what armour they wore and their unit skin is wrong because they have chainmail on in their unit skin so... Their defence might be correct afterall, but they definately need fixing.
