Ive been Striken by a chesty cough for the past few weeks (should probably see a dr)
And ive noticed,
Every time i go in to a coughing spazm, My stomach muscles contract something cronick,
Also the ones around the small of my back.
My coughing fits seem to be Really Impressive crunches.
That actualy work all my stomach muscles.
And not only that But as I cant controll my coughing I cant stop doing them.
To me This makes Coughing One of the Best stomach toning exersises you can get.
So next time you get a chest infection.
Remember what i said befor you go get some anti-biotics from the dr.
Prehaps Your bout of illness could lead to your best fitness :)
Thought id share that with you
you ----> docter.
That doesn't sound good.

when you cough, you damage the lungs, which will probably negate any benefit through exercise
Breathing excercises can do your abs good, that I know for sure but coughing? I'm not completely sold on the benefits of that

As Byzantine Mercenary says, I imagine the damage protracted coughing can cause to the alveoli of your lungs is reason enough to not do it, exercise or not.
I imagine hard laughter would be a safer bet, and more enjoyable too.

There is no way coughing will strengthen your abdominal muscles. It's too short of a burst of energy for anything but straining to occur. It would be like punting a football numerous times sporadically through the day and expecting your leg to increase in tone or mass.

Yes, I was sick a couple weeks ago and let me tell you, I was so sore. It hurt my abs so badly, and I do about 200 crunches daily...
Hope you get over whatever you have!:embarassed:

You could have bronchitis which could lead into pneumonia if not treated. Ask yourself, is a nice stomach worth suffering and maybe death?
