View Full Version : Why No New Buildings for Carthaginians?

Although the problem getting the carthaginian (BI 1.6) culture assigned to all vanilla buildings and to all levels of buildings was solved by modding the descr_ui_buildings.txt the culture is still unable to be accepted into a new building tree. It causes a kick back to menu.
Thus far I have not been able to trace the reason for this. Does anyone have any insight into this from any of the mods that have added new buildings and are using the carthaginian culture?

Yeah, I've got a number of unique buildings (just "carthaginian" variants of ones others can use, but with carthaginian text and descriptions), and a couple of others similar to that. We dont' have enough space to give a single complex to them alone though. But the graphics and text work as far as I can see. BTW, they work for the "numidia" faction too when placed in the carthaginian UI folders.

Yes, text and graphics work fine.
I was referring to totally new buildings as opposed to an old vanilla building slot (tree or level) newly assigned to the carthaginian culture - but I suppose it would have to be BI anyway.

Oh yeah, those are new ones - totally new complexes and levels - and they do work in 1.2 at least for carthage. Good luck.
Hmm. Same problem here.
I'm trying to add Carthage to a new building in RTW v1.5, but it keeps CTD. I have no problem with any other faction.
Although I've installed the 1.6 patch (since I have BI), I'm modding for a RTW game (on v1.5).
So perhaps there is a problem with v1.5 and v1.6?

I'm not sure if this is what you mean:
building temple_of_milicarth

temple_of_milicarth_shrine requires factions { carthage, numidia, }
...etc
In this case the name of the building is changed and also the name of the levels.
There is another example, but in that case only the building name changes:
building barracks_hellenic
{
levels muster_field militia_barracks city_barracks army_barracks royal_barracks
{
muster_field requires factions { greek_cities, carthage, }
{...etc
Both examples work perfectly in RTW 1.5. More than 35 turns played and, of course, both types of buildings are present.
Could it be the problem in the name of the culture? Did you try putting the names of the individual factions?

I have tried to give Carthaginians everything in 1.5 vanilla and the only thing I get is ctd. I just used Synchronx by Clickteam to check it against 1.2 vanilla. The only new file that should affect adding new buildings that is new in 1.5/1.6 is data/descr_cultures.txt. bi/data/cultures.txt also exists. Can the files in the descr_cultures.txt file be made Carthaginian specific? Right now they are a Roman/Eastern combination.
