View Full Version : Superpower?
Hey,
I was just wondering what you define a superpower as? I'm playing RTW with Egypt and my empire stretches from my starting regions to all of modern Turkey (excluding Istanbul). Seleucids, Greeks and Pontus are all out. Parthia have been kicked out to one remaining province in Russia so no borders with them, Armenia have two vulnerable provinces (my next order of business) and Scythia dont have the manpower to attack me due to their interests else where.
All in all I have 20 provinces. Am I a superpower?
I have no idea lol, hence the question. What do you define a superpower as? Is it all on province count? Or is it who is the richest? Or some other quality you use to define a superpower?
Thanks for help of clearing this up.

I'd say a superpower is a faction that is extremely strong in size, military and economical terms, and which has the ability to directly influence matters in the world. Political power is another factor a superpower must be strong in, but in RTW politics doesn't count for much. In your case, you are a superpower. Your empire is large enough to be self-sustaining (you don't need other faction's help to survive/grow), and I doubt very much any single faction out there can directly compete with you. You can probably crush whoever you want to go after. Arguebly, a superpower should be much larger still, but you still have a large empire.
Looking at the map, if the Brutii keep expanding into Greece and knock out the Macedonians and weaken Thrace, they'll be near a superpower status themselves. I assume you'll be getting in there before them though.
I'm not sure. I'm playing easy/easy (2nd campaign) so although I do like the difficulty level I would quite like to face another superpower. Could get interesting, West Versus The East kinda deal. So because of this I plan to do up and take out Scythia/Parthia. (Armenia are now no more) After that I will see how far the brutii have expanded.
Oh and I like your definition of a superpower, definately agree with it in 'real world' terms. But as you said in RTW it's very difficult to influence the world, unless it's under your command.

Btw - for a bit of fun, try forcing the Numidians into being your protectorate, or at least getting an alliance with them and getting military access. Then send armies next to their city to protect them from the Scipii. Will give you something to do whilst you concentrate your efforts elsewhere.

if your first in Military, Production, Population, Territory, Economy, and Overall then yes you are a superpower. if you are second in any one then no you are not :D
